Clinical/Counselling Psychologist - Early Intervention Service

<h2>Job summary</h2>
  <p>The Isle of Wight Talking Therapies Service are seeking applications from highly motivated individuals, to work as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. This a permanent, full-time position.</p><p>The post holder will have a recognised PWP qualification. They will conduct initial mental health assessments and deliver evidence-based low intensity interventions to clients on the Isle of Wight. This may include cognitive re-structuring, graded exposure, behavioural experiments, guided self-help, computerised CBT, and information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be via; video, telephone or face to face in a community clinic. They will work with people with different cultural backgrounds, disabilities and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.</p><p>This exciting opportunity will enable you to make a real difference to the lives of local people, by offering fast access to evidence-based interventions supported by NICE guidelines.</p><p>The successful candidate will have experience of working in a Talking Therapies model of delivery.</p><p>Please note before submitting an application this is not a remote working position as the successful candidate will be required to offer patient face to face appointments in clinic settings on the Isle of Wight and be available across the working week for other in-person focused activities relating to the role.</p>



  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>Upon completion of the initial assessment the post holder will identify the mental health cluster that the client will be assigned to in accordance with the mental health clustering tool.</p><p>The post holder will deliver evidence-based interventions via differing modalities, such as; a group setting, face to face, video chat and telephone.</p><p>Operate at all times from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and recognises and respects diversity.</p><p>Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, where the client has given permission.</p><p>Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.</p><p>Manage and convey information which may be of a sensitive and/or distressing nature.</p><p>Analyse and interpret patient outcome measures such as PHQ9 and GAD7 and to then administer the appropriate evidence-based intervention, monitored through caseload management.</p><p>Assess clinical risk and refer to specialist mental health services as indicated autonomously if assessed as urgent, or in collaboration with the caseload manager if the risk is assessed as low but the client's needs are beyond that of brief psychological interventions.</p><p>Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department's referral protocols, refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or step-up the person's treatment to high intensity psychological therapy.</p>

  <p>The Perinatal Mental Health Service has a highly skilled team of perinatal psychological therapists who are committed to providing evidence-based interventions to women, birthing people and their families that are accessible and acceptable to the diverse South London population.   <p>We are looking for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist or Accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapist to provide psychological assessment and intervention to women, birthing people and their families in the perinatal period, as well as contribute to the multi-disciplinary team.</p>
<p>We would like to hear from those who have experience delivering psychological therapies in secondary care or within a MDT setting, and are proficient in delivering NICE concordant interventions for depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis and bipolar affective disorder.</p>
<p>You will ideally have experience of working with women, birthing people and their families within the perinatal period and / or a keen interest to develop knowledge and skills in this area. Specialist perinatal supervision will be provided and you will join a friendly and supportive team of specialist perinatal psychologists and psychological therapists.</p>

  <p>Perinatal Mental Health Teams (PMHTs) are secondary care mental health teams that specialise in supporting women and birthing people in the perinatal period (pregnancy through until 12 months postnatal) who have severe and complex mental health difficulties.</p>
<p>We assess and treat a range of difficulties including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, personality disorders and eating disorders. The service is designed to provide timely input to families to mitigate the impact of mental health disorder on the child.</p>
<p>We are a multi-disciplinary team including psychiatry, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, and nursery nursing. The service works closely with maternity/obstetric services as well as other agencies (e.g., health visiting and social services). We have close links with the Mother-Baby Unit (MBU) in-patient unit at the Bethlem Royal Hospital.</p>

  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
   <p>In this role, you will provide High Intensity CBT interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training which commences in March 2026 in collaboration with the University of Sheffield. The post is full time 37.5 hours. This training post will equip you to deliver a range of evidence based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions to clients with a range of common mental health problems in primary care.</p> <p>You will be required to attend taught and self-study days provided by the University two days a week. The remaining 3 days of the week you will work at either the Doncaster Taking Therapies or Rotherham service (1 post for Doncaster and 1 for Rotherham).</p> <p>On successful completion of the course you will be expected to work towards and maintain full accreditation with the BABCP.</p> <p>This role is fixed term for 12 months, which will become a permanent band 7 High intensity CBT post on successful completion of the course.</p> <p>Please note that this is not a remote only post and you will be required to have a face-to-face clinics.</p>
