Counsellors&nbsp;on Placement provide emotional and therapeutic support to children and young people aged 4-18 in Place2Be partner schools. As an organisation that has adopted the BACP ethical framework of good practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, counsellors working within the organisation are dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of the children they work with.

 <li>We provide a comprehensive induction programme and clinical supervision is undertaken at the end of each day.</li>
 <li>We need you to be available for a minimum of one day per week to work in a therapeutic capacity with up to 3 children offering one-to-one counselling.</li>
 <li>Placements are term time only and run for one academic year. There are opportunities for you to stay with us beyond one year.</li>
 <li>You will have the opportunity to attend up to six optional workshops throughout the year which are recognised as continuing professional development time.</li>
 <li>Sessions spent with children are accepted as clinical hours towards professional accreditation, and are recognised by the BACP and UKCP.</li>
 <li>A placement is an excellent stepping stone into a job opportunity and career with Place2Be, over&nbsp;⅔&nbsp;of our clinical staff were once Counsellors on Placement.</li>

You will be a fully qualified Counsellor, Therapist or studying towards one of these professions at the following levels:

 <li>Diploma in Counselling (Level 4 or above). If you are in your first year you will have completed a full academic year Certificate Course in Counselling or the equivalent of 9 - 12 months.</li>
 <li>Degree, MSc or MA in Counselling or Psychotherapy - if you are in your first year you will have relevant experience of direct work with children.</li>

As a Volunteer Counsellor with CrossReach in our Bluebell Perinatal Service, you will be providing a professional counselling service to clients. We will provide you with the necessary training that allows you to practice within our guidelines. We will also offer you the necessary training needed when you join the team. If you would like to volunteer with us as a counsellor, we ask that you have completed a diploma in counselling or are currently undergoing a counselling diploma and have completed your readiness to practice. For our perinatal services we also ask that you have completed a minimum of 50 clinical hours. If you would like to see clients online, we also ask that you have completed an ACTO approved online training course. We will discuss at interview the number of clients you will see, completion of your associated case work and your availability to attend our group supervision along with the number of hours of clinical hours that you can volunteer for. Once you have passed your interview stage, we will apply for a PVG Membership for you, whether this be a new membership or an update to an existing membership. Building on SEL Mind s comprehensive Mindful Mums and Being Dad (MMBD) programmes, we are seeking to appoint a Perinatal Counsellor to provide one-to-one talking therapy to expectant and new parents in Lewisham. The focus will be reducing the anxiety of expectant parents during pregnancy and in the immediate postnatal period. The service will offer structured counselling sessions to parents, tailored to individual needs, cultural context and preferences. The Counsellor will draw upon the wealth of experience within the wider MMBD team and strong links with local professional networks including Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team, Maternity Steering Group and Lewisham Perinatal Mental Health and Parent-Infant Relationship Network. You will have experience of working with clients within the perinatal period as a counsellor post qualification, including conducting clinical assessments and risk assessments. You will be confident in managing a caseload, regularly reviewing and monitoring clients and working with people from diverse communities. Successful candidates must provide evidence of their registration with a professional counselling body e.g. BACP. The expectations of the role are to support a minimum of 20 clients within the first year. Client work will be delivered within confidential spaces in Family Hubs across Lewisham Borough. Ideally client work will be delivered in one full day, supporting an average of 5 clients. The role holder will be required to work on Tuesday mornings in order to attend team meetings and training.
