  <p>This is an exciting
opportunity to for an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to join the
team at the new Regional Learning Disability and Autism Unit in Dawlish from
mid-2025 (The Brook). The new regional service based in Dawlish
will offer inpatient support to both adults with a learning disability and
autistic adults. The building and environment will be state of the art and the
service aims to become a centre of excellence.</p><p>Our work is integral
to the evidence based care pathways, contributing to the formulation and
planning of Positive Proactive Support Plans, Reducing Restrictive Practice, stopping
over medication of people with a learning disability (STOMP), trauma informed
care and much more. We have a strong role in supporting the development of
capable environments around the needs of our client group. Our core business as
an Occupational Therapy team is assessment and intervention to promote
engagement in meaningful occupations to maximise health and wellbeing.</p><p>We have excellent clinical leadership and
supervision structures; hold regular Occupational Therapy meetings which
include linking in with the wider trust AHPs, and encourage regular CPD and learning
opportunities to develop skills across a variety of areas.</p><p><strong>Interview dates are planned for 19th August &amp; also 21st August 2025 if an additional day is required.</strong></p>



  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>We are looking for
an imaginative, creative and enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Technical
Instructor to work with people with learning disabilities and autistic adults
displaying distressed behaviour who have complex needs. The post holder will
focus on supporting assessment and providing Occupational Therapy interventions,
under the guidance and supervision of the Occupational Therapist, that improve
peoples wellbeing and quality of life by promoting engagement in meaningful activity
and inclusion in their community.</p><p>The post holder
will pro-actively work alongside the Occupational Therapist, within the multi-disciplinary
team contributing to care planning, risk management and the planning and
organisation of daily activities on the ward.
The post holder will participate in the internal rotation system
including weekend working and will receive the paid enhancements associated
with this.</p><p>The post holder
will be encouraged to be innovative and motivated in contributing to the development

  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>HCSWs within this team are lone workers, taking full responsibility for the care of children with complex needs after receiving comprehensive training. This could be caring for a child overnight in their own home, while parents are sleeping, accompanying a child to school and meeting their needs during the school day or working with another HCSW/nurse to give parents a complete break.</p>
<p>Following training and competency assessment, HCSWs will be able to independently care for children with tracheostomies, gastrostomies, require medications, oxygen therapy amongst other medical needs.</p>
<p>Shift times vary dependant on the child's needs and HCSWs are expected to work a mixture of days, nights, and weekend shifts, these can be anytime over the 24 hour period.</p>

      <h3>Job responsibilities</h3>
      <p>The ideal candidates will need to be organised, able to work alone and part of a team, adaptable, calm in pressured situations and flexible to meet the needs of the service. Ideally you will have experience in a health care, social care or education setting working with children. An NVQ3 in care or equivalent care experience is desired, however full training will be given.</p> <p>This is an extremely rewarding role as you will be caring for children in their homes/school providing support ensuring that their needs are met. You will be attending to personal cares, moving and handling needs and engaging through play.
