Consultant Art Therapist, Head of Art Therapy

<h2>Job summary</h2>
  <p>This is an exciting arts therapies opportunity with Newham Arts Therapies, working with adult service users with complex mental health needs, in hospital and the community. The clinical provision is to cover for maternity leave, and may include individual and group work. You will be well supported with supervision from very experienced arts therapies clinicians. You will be part of a well-established arts therapies, and specialist psychotherapy service. We are looking for interested applicants who can work autonomously and be part of a very committed team. Team meetings take place on Wednesdays, 9.30-11am online. This full-time fixed-term role may be split across more than one modality, days to be negotiated accordingly.</p>



  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>You will work as part of Newham Arts Therapies, offering clinical provision, including assessment, individual and group work, to in-patient and community service users with complex mental health needs. This work takes place in different locations, including Newham Centre for Mental Health, 409 High Street and other community locations, and will include picking up ongoing referrals, and setting up of some new work in the community. You will be qualified and registered as an Arts Therapist (art psychotherapy, dramatherapy, music therapy and dance movement psychotherapy), with work experience relevant to the role. We are looking for committed and enthusiastic applicants who want to work as part of a team and contribute meaningfully to service user experience and recovery.</p>

  <p>We are currently seeking a creative therapist ( Play, Drama and Music ) to work with looked after children (CLA) in the Hull CAMHS CLA team.</p>
<p>Our service provides therapeutic interventions to children and young people looked after, specialising in supporting individuals who have attachment difficulties and/or have experienced developmental trauma.</p>
<p>As such, you will join a committed CLA Service within the Hull CAMHS team. This post will provide opportunities for professional development and personal growth. <p>Thornford Park Hospital, part of Elysium Healthcare, is an independent 143 bedded hospital set in 23 acres of parkland on the outskirts of Newbury, Berkshire (close to the Hampshire borders).</p>
<p>We provide services for male and female patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) who require care in conditions of medium and low security. Our service users, many of whom have forensic histories, require long-term treatment and rehabilitation and present with multiple problems, challenging and high-risk behaviour and complex care needs. In addition to the mental health wards, Thornford Park has a 14-bedded low secure service for male patients with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, commissioned by NHS England, a medium/low secure service for females with a Learning Disability, and a medium secure service for males with Learning Disability. We also have two Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, one for males and one for females, providing holistic assessment and treatment for individuals experiencing crisis</p>

<p>You will be key in leading and developing the regional medical directorate advising on psychiatric and medical issues within Barnet Lane Clinic and the South East region. As lead for the medical directorate, you will operationally manage, within agreed standards, targets, timetables and constraints in accordance with operational and strategic objectives. </p>
<p><strong>Your responsibilities as a Regional Medical Director will include:</strong></p>
<ul>
    <li>Responsibility for the administration of the Mental Health Act, Clinical Policy, Clinical Standards and associated administrative tasks in respect of patients</li>
    <li>Exercise professional leadership and institute, manage and evaluate via the most appropriate means that can include audit or QI, a medical service, ensuring that clinical policy, practice and its application is research based and of a good standard</li>
    <li>Work with the General Practitioner to ensure the provision of primary care medical services appropriate to patients in services.</li>
    <li>As a member of the Regional Senior Management team, provide leadership, support and guidance where necessary to all staff, always ensuring best practice.</li>
    <li>Regularly meet virtually or face to face with the consultants, in the region, to share best practice, concerns and discuss strategic objectives and future medical needs and issues. </li>
    <li>Chair monthly regional medical meetings.</li>
    <li>To be part of regional clinical governance and provide clinical input.</li>
    <li>To feed into corporate clinical governance through regional leads.</li>
    <li>Manage medical practice in region as per GMC good practice guidance and insure adherence with Elysium Healthcare appraisal guidance.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>To be successful as an applicant you’ll need:</strong></p>
<ul>
    <li>Medically qualified with MB ChB or equivalent</li>
    <li>MRC Psych or equivalent</li>
    <li>Excellent spoken and written communication</li>
    <li>Effective analytical, interpersonal and negotiating</li>
    <li>Innovative and imaginative with the ability to initiate corporate decisions</li>
    <li>Proven experience of working in a leadership role</li>
    <li>Proven experience of working as a Senior consultant</li>
    <li>Substantial experience of change management, relevant legislation, contemporary issues in mental health, recruitment and retention issues for doctors, knowledge of, and experience in purchaser/provider contractual issues</li>
    <li>Previous experience in a management role</li>
