In this role, you will lead the clinical management of a defined caseload, overseeing psychiatric assessments, formulations, and treatment planning. You will provide specialist advice to courts, probation, prison services and MAPPA, and prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals, hospital managers’ hearings, and the Ministry of Justice. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams—including forensic social workers, psychologists, and occupational therapists—you will ensure coordinated care and effective implementation of the Care Programme Approach.
Beyond clinical leadership, you will play a key role in service development, shaping strategy, and contributing to pathway reconfiguration to meet evolving needs. You will actively participate in clinical governance, audits, and risk management processes, supporting quality improvement and compliance with CQC/HIW standards. Your responsibilities will also include teaching and supervision of trainee psychiatrists and junior medical staff, as well as leading research and quality-improvement projects to inform best practice.

			Are you passionate about transforming young lives through expert psychiatric care? Join Rhodes Wood Hospital, a supportive and experienced team as a Consultant Psychiatrist within our Tier 4 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CYPMHS), providing specialist care for young people aged 12 to 18 with eating disorders. You will work in a service that delivers evidence-based, individualised treatment programmes designed to meet each young person’s unique needs.
As a CYPMHS Consultant Psychiatrist, you will review referrals, conduct admission assessments, and ensure effective management plans are in place. You will lead risk assessments, oversee physical health evaluations, and provide clinical leadership, supervision, and reflective practice for key workers within the team. Your role will include supervising non-training grade doctors and psychiatric trainees, participating in the on-call rota (currently 1 in 6), and supporting cross-cover arrangements for colleagues during leave periods.
You will uphold governance standards, maintain accurate records, and ensure culturally competent practice aligned with safeguarding requirements. Collaboration is key—you will establish strong working relationships with GPs, CYPMHS community teams, commissioners, and other stakeholders to ensure continuity of care. Participation in clinical governance, annual appraisal, and CPD is essential, alongside an interest in research and teaching to support service development.
As a CYPMHS Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be required to:

CYPMHS Consultant Psychiatrist

			If you’re an Associate Specialist looking for a new opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary team in an established secure service setting delivering&nbsp;high-quality clinical service to people with complex mental health conditions across the medium and low secure service.
&nbsp;Working part time 18.75 hours a week alongside the unit's multidisciplinary team, including the Consultant, to ensure that service users receive a holistic and person-centric treatment programme based on the recovery model.

As an Associate Specialist, you will ensure the high quality first-line medical care of our inpatients, liaise effectively with external professionals and carers, provide written and oral evidence for Hospital Managers’ and Tribunal hearings, work towards safe discharges including preparing discharge summaries, reports and other necessary documentation and be a valued and effective member of the multidisciplinary team at Thornford Park Hospital
This established service looks to continually innovate, improve and deliver excellent care for its service users, has an active programme of education and research and provides significant developmental opportunities for its staff.
There are currently four other Associate Specialists working in the service. There is no formal on-call commitment attached to the role, but there are opportunities to join the on-call rota through a locum agency which provides on-call services for the hospital.

Other Responsibilities include:

 <li>Ensuring an adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours</li>
 <li>Reviewing the mental state of patients as per the hospital procedure</li>
 <li>Ensuring that each patient has a full physical health screen upon admission including physical examination, ECG and bloods</li>
 <li>Lead and manage any physical health concerns that emerge during an inpatient stay</li>
 <li>Seeking collateral history from other professionals and family</li>

 <li>Preparing First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers’ hearing reports under the supervision of the Consultant</li>
 <li>Depending on your experience, providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers’ hearings under the supervision of the Consultant</li>
