If so, join St Mary’s Hospital as a Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist to provide strategic leadership, expert clinical oversight and recovery-focused care for people within the criminal justice system. Acting as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act, you will ensure the highest standards of psychiatric care across medium and low secure services.
In this role, you will lead the clinical management of a defined caseload, overseeing psychiatric assessments, formulations, and treatment planning. You will provide specialist advice to courts, probation, prison services and MAPPA, and prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals, hospital managers’ hearings, and the Ministry of Justice. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams—including forensic social workers, psychologists, and occupational therapists—you will ensure coordinated care and effective implementation of the Care Programme Approach.
Beyond clinical leadership, you will play a key role in service development, shaping strategy, and contributing to pathway reconfiguration to meet evolving needs. You will actively participate in clinical governance, audits, and risk management processes, supporting quality improvement and compliance with CQC/HIW standards. Your responsibilities will also include teaching and supervision of trainee psychiatrists and junior medical staff, as well as leading research and quality-improvement projects to inform best practice.

What you will be doing:
You will&nbsp;provide specialist care and treatment to adult male patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act (1983). Our service users, many of whom have Acquired Brain Injury and forensic histories, require long term treatment and rehabilitation and present with multiple difficulties, including high risk behaviour and complex care needs. St Mary's hospital offers a breadth of opportunity and experience for clinical work, &nbsp;with a medium secure and a low secure ward; a Level 2 rehabilitation ward; and an Acute service. This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week.&nbsp;
In collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and under the direction and supervision of the Joint Heads of Psychology, you will support the delivery of psychology services across St Mary’s Hospital. In the absence of the Joint Heads, you will act as the primary point of contact between the psychology department and the senior management team.
As the Forensic/ Clinical/ Counselling/ Neuro Psychologist you will have active participation in multidisciplinary team work, ensuring that our service users are fully engaged in their care pathways. It also includes supporting clinical team efforts through both direct interventions and the facilitation of staff training programmes. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new initiatives and ways of working within the service and working in partnership with both internal and external agencies to enhance treatment pathways for service users.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure service users are fully engaged in their care pathway and receive high-quality, person-centred treatment. This is an opportunity to contribute to innovative therapeutic approaches and service development while supporting people on their journey to recovery.
In this role, you will provide psychological assessments using a range of tools and techniques, integrating complex data to formulate tailored treatment plans. You will implement individual and group interventions, adjusting and refining formulations to meet patient needs. Alongside direct clinical work, you will contribute to service improvement initiatives, research and audits, ensuring our practices remain aligned with best practice and clinical governance standards. You will also support staff development through training programmes and provide supervision to Assistant Psychologists, helping to build a strong and skilled team.
As the Practitioner Psychologist, you will:
<ul>
 <li>Support the provision of psychology services in a specified area, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and under the direction and supervison of a Senior/Principal/Consultant or Lead Psychologist.</li>
 <li>Participate fully with the multidisciplinary team and ensure that the patient is fully engaged in their care pathway.</li>
 <li>Support clinical team working, including both direct interventions and the delivery of staff training programmes.</li>
 <li>Support the clinical team and area of service in developing new initiatives and ways of working.</li>
 <li>Work with internal and external agencies to enhance treatment pathways for patients.</li>
</ul>
To be successful in this role, you will have:
<ul>
 <li>Successful completion of a Doctorate level qualification in applied psychology either through the British Psychological Society or a recognised training body, enabling registration with the HCPC as as Practitioner Psychologist.</li>
 <li>Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist and Charterable status with the British Psychological Society.</li>
 <li>Experience (either pre-training, on training, or subsequently) of working with clients with complex needs that are relevant to the population in the service area.</li>
 <li>Competency in psychological assessment and formulation skills and an aptitude for learning new assessment methods.</li>
 <li>Competency with risk assessment, management, and evaluation tools.</li>
 <li>Clinical therapy skills - Experience using different therapeutic approaches to address a range of clinical issues. An awareness of other modalities and how they may be applied to the current service user population.</li>

Practitioner Psychologist

<h2>Fully remote, full-time internship for aspiring clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors.</h2>Our Clinical Psychology Internship equips aspiring mental health professionals worldwide with essential skills and practical client-facing experience, preparing them for careers in clinical psychology, coaching, psychotherapy, or counselling.Interns complete an intensive one-month crash course covering a toolkit of evidence-based techniques from Motivational Interviewing, Coaching, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). They then provide free online, one-to-one coaching to global clients who otherwise lack access to mental health care, initially promoting behaviour change (e.g., diet, sleep, reducing procrastination) and later progressing to clients experiencing depression or anxiety.<h3>About Overcome</h3>Overcome is a UK-registered charity (Charity Number: 1191308) providing online mental health coaching worldwide, particularly to underserved communities in developing countries. We are a trusted placement provider for leading universities such as UCL, Bath, and Loughborough.<h3>Internship Overview</h3>This internship is a fully remote, unpaid, full-time (~30 hours/week) role.
