Join Rhodes Wood Hospital, a supportive and experienced team as a Consultant Psychiatrist within our Tier 4 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CYPMHS), providing specialist care for young people aged 12 to 18 with eating disorders. You will work in a service that delivers evidence-based, individualised treatment programmes designed to meet each young person’s unique needs.
As a CYPMHS Consultant Psychiatrist, you will review referrals, conduct admission assessments, and ensure effective management plans are in place. You will lead risk assessments, oversee physical health evaluations, and provide clinical leadership, supervision, and reflective practice for key workers within the team. Your role will include supervising non-training grade doctors and psychiatric trainees, participating in the on-call rota (currently 1 in 6), and supporting cross-cover arrangements for colleagues during leave periods.
You will uphold governance standards, maintain accurate records, and ensure culturally competent practice aligned with safeguarding requirements. Collaboration is key—you will establish strong working relationships with GPs, CYPMHS community teams, commissioners, and other stakeholders to ensure continuity of care. Farmfield Hospital is a purpose-built secure hospital which comprises of four MSU ward and two LSU wards for male service users. The hospital is centrally located with excellent transport links to London and Brighton.

You&nbsp;will provide a clinical service of specialist psychology assessments and interventions to a number of adult service users with&nbsp;acute mental health needs&nbsp;on the ward. You will also provide a specialist clinical perspective in relation to other service users with whom you might not be directly involved. Potters Bar uses a formulation driven and trauma informed model of care.
Reporting directly to the Lead Psychologist, you will be responsible for individual and group interventions, diagnostic and cognitive assessments, MDT working and risk assessments. You will also facilitate staff reflective practice sessions and be requested to design and deliver training.

As a Psychologist you will be:

As the Consultant Child and Young People Psychiatrist, your responsibilities will include:
Clinical Duties
<ul type="disc">
 <li>Provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management of young people admitted to the unit.</li>
 <li>Lead on formulation and treatment planning in collaboration with the MDT.</li>
 <li>Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medication in line with NICE guidelines.</li>
 <li>Conduct regular ward rounds, CPA reviews, and Mental Health Act assessments.</li>
 <li>Liaise with families, carers, and external agencies including Case managers, community CYPMHS, social care, and education providers.</li>
 <li>Provide clinical leadership in managing complex cases and safeguarding concerns.</li>

To be successful in this role, you'll need

 <li>Inclusion on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.</li>
 <li>Extensive experience in CYPMHS, including inpatient settings.</li>

 <li>Experience in service development or research.</li>
