Job overview

We are seeking this position to start in April-July 2026 (Negotiable).

Reporting to: Head of University Counselling and the Vice Principal-Senior School

We welcome applications from candidates working in secondary schools and in university admissions.

Primary Responsibility

The University Counsellor will deliver a comprehensive, student-centred university counselling programme, guiding students through every stage of the global university admissions process. The role requires a strong depth of knowledge of both secondary and tertiary education sectors, with a commitment to continuous learning, research, and the effective use of data and technology to inform counselling practice.

Working collaboratively within the University Counselling Department, the University Counsellor will contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the programme. They are expected to demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and attention to detail, while communicating clearly and confidently with students, families, colleagues and universities. The role requires empathy, cultural awareness, ethical judgement and the ability to build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders. A passion for learning, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to acquire unfamiliar knowledge and apply it effectively are essential.

Specific Responsibilities

University Application Support:

● Guide Grade 11 and 12 students, alumni and students on gap years or serving National Service through informed learning and decision-making.

● Conduct information sessions and workshops for students, parents and teachers.

● Provide detailed support for personal statements, essays, and all aspects of the research and application process.

● Collaborate with teachers to ensure effective academic references.

● Write individualised counsellor references.

Programme Development:

● Continue to develop the University Counselling programme to meet the needs of a diverse student body.

● Coordinate assigned grade-level events, activities and workshops.

● Organise and host university visits, events and fairs.

Advisory and Guidance:

● Guide Grade 10 students on IB subject choices, ensuring alignment with future aspirations.

● Provide comprehensive information to students, parents, and teachers about university visits, application timelines, and other relevant updates.

● Maintain and update admissions guides and materials.

Professional Development:

● Attend university visits and events, both virtual and in-person.

● Foster relationships with admissions departments at universities worldwide.

● Stay informed about developments and engage in continuous professional learning through webinars, conferences, and training sessions, particularly for universities in Singapore, the UK, Australia, the US, Canada, Asia, and Europe, including during school holidays.

● Share knowledge with the counselling team and school community to support the programme's continuous improvement.

● Take opportunities to engage with and contribute positively to the university counselling community in Singapore.

Preferred Experience and Skills

● Demonstrates a positive, proactive, and flexible work ethic, with the ability to adapt to evolving programme needs.

● Exceptional attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.

● Nuanced and advanced knowledge of global university systems and admissions processes, particularly in Singapore, the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Asia, and Europe.

● Knowledge of international financial aid, scholarships and funding pathways.

● Familiarity with university counselling platforms (e.g., Unifrog) and adeptness at learning new technologies, data tools and systems.

● Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple timelines and student caseloads effectively.

● Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and confidently in writing, speaking and presenting.

● Proven ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, universities and colleagues with empathy, cultural awareness and professionalism.

● Willingness to be contacted outside typical school hours and term dates when required.
