Job summary

We're looking for a Practitioner Psychologist or Psychological Therapist to join our friendly, highly-skilled and enthusiastic community of psychological professions in the Brighton & Hove Neighbourhood Mental Health Team.

This is a permanent Band 7 post (WTE 0.9) where you will be working with people with complex mental health problems, their families and carers.

We are keen to support your professional development and will support you to undertake additional specialist training relevant to the post, plus the regular CPD opportunities for psychological professionals available in the Trust. There will also be the opportunity for you to have protected time to gain experience in other parts of Brighton community mental health services if this would be of interest.

We would like to support you to develop a specialism within your role to build your expertise in an area of interest, such as within trauma, psychosis or complex emotional needs. Please talk with us if you have an area of work that you're passionate about and would like to develop.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the clinical service/ team, providing a high quality, specialist applied psychology service to clients, their families or carers. In addition, to support psychological practice within the team through consultation, supervision, formulation and training and by participating in systematic clinical governance. The practitioner psychologist / psychological therapist will contribute to the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that psychological aspects of patient care and risk management are considered and integrated into treatment plans. To utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology as approved by the HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of applied psychology.
  • Experience working with diverse client groups across the lifespan, managing a range of clinical severity, while maintaining professionalism in the face of emotional distress, verbal abuse, and potential physical threats
  • Experience of applying psychology in different cultural contexts and working within a multicultural framework
