Job summary

This role will be working alongside the Step 2 Leads and all members of the Step 2 Team to ensure appropriate clinical support and guidance is given to the step 2 workforce and that the needs of the clients NHS Sefton Talking Therapies serves are being met. You must be a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner or a Qualified Graduate Mental Health Worker with at least 1 year post qualification experience.

Main duties of the job

Provide assessment and low intensity interventions e.g psycho educational interventions, Guided Self Help, to patients registered with GP practices/health centres, drawing from CBT theories and techniques. Provide a service that is comprehensive and accessible to a broad range of patients who have common mental health problems and who are over 16 years of age To provide a service that is equitable and non-discriminatory in terms of age, gender, ethnicity and disability Support GPs and other primary care workers in making appropriate referrals and in carrying out the mental health aspects of their own roles. Make appropriate referrals to other service providers in the statutory and voluntary sectors and redirect patients to other sources of appropriate support within the local community as required. Develop a knowledge of the locality and its services and facilities, particularly in relation to mental health issues. Provide a service that is flexible, as far as possible, to meet the demands of the client. Liaise as appropriate with secondary care mental health services and social service departments. Conduct risk assessments, prepare risk management plans and initiate appropriate action where indicated (including requests for mental health act assessments and referrals to relevant secondary care services).

  • Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.
  • Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self management of their recovery.
  • Undertake patient-centred interviews which identifies areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
  • Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the service's referral protocols, refers unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or steps-up the person's treatment to high intensity psychological therapy.
  • Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high volume low-intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help computerised CBT, information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone, workshops or via other media.
  • Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
  • Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process
  • Operate at all times from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and recognises and respects diversity.
  • Training and Supervision:
  • Prepare and present clinical information for all patients on their caseload to clinical case management supervisors within the service on an agreed and scheduled basis, in order to ensure safe practice and the clinical governance obligations of the worker, supervisor and service are delivered.
  • Respond to and implement supervision suggestions by supervisors in clinical practice and respond to personal development supervision to improve competences and clinical practice.
  • Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (eg BPS, UKCP, BABCP), and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).
  • Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times.
  • Be aware of, and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of CBT. About you Experience of supervising others within a therapy setting.
