Westwood House will be a short stay (up to twenty eight days) Ofsted registered residential home for children aged eleven to eighteen years old. This joint service between the NHS and SCC will provide four residential beds for children who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing social, emotional and/or mental health crisis. We aim to provide a safe, stable environment where children's needs can be assessed and plans can be formulated to support children to return to living in the community, ideally within a family environment.
Hampshire and IOW healthcare NHS Foundation trust are looking to recruit a senior mental health nurse/practitioner a to support the day-to-day management of young people admitted to Westwood House, as well as completing outreach work for young people & families/carers, who are either due to be admitted or have recently been discharged. This will include assessment, risk management and short-term evidence based psychological interventions.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and creative senior nurse to be part of forming the service and leading on training for new staff to deliver on the vision. We want to ensure that we provide a safe environment with highly skilled staff where we can really understand the underlying issues behind presenting crisis and ensure that any future planning is undertaken in a calm, considered way to ensure longer term stability for children. You will be a culture carrier for high-quality, aspirational care of vulnerable young people to improve longer terms outcomes.
Utilising your experience in mental health working with young people, you will be pivotal in setting the standard for safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care as part of a wider multi-agency team. You will share your knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with complex needs, that current services struggle to meet. You will help to train residential staff to support young peoples mental health needs and effectively risk manage.

- Professional Qualification at degree level or equivalent
- Completion of further post-qualification specialist training at post graduate level or equivalent experience, i.e. DBT, CBT

- Experience of specialist mental health assessment and treatment of children and adolescents and their families/carers where appropriate as a full member of a multi-disciplinary team located in community, primary care, outpatients, or inpatient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of children, adolescents and their families/carers across the whole range and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
- Post qualifying experience of working as a specialist mental health worker within a mental health setting.
- Experience of writing and delivering complex and robust risk assessment and risk management plans and leading on their delivery.
