Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Psychological Therapist with enthusiasm and interest in working with older people to join a friendly and supportive specialist primary care team. Based at St James House, The Salford Older Adult Primary Care Psychological Therapies Service provides psychological therapies and counselling to older people within the Salford community. We are a unique service and passionate about the needs of older people and equal access to talking therapies.
We are looking for a compassionate and creative individual to deliver high quality talking therapies to older people presenting with a range of psychological difficulties in the context of ageing. You will also be passionate about promoting the mental health needs of older people. You would be part of a small, nurturing team, which includes Psychologists, Counsellors, Occupational Therapist, and a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. As a service we utilise a variety of therapeutic approaches adapted to the needs of our clients, including CBT, Compassion Focussed Therapy, EMDR and Person-Centred Counselling. We also run groups for carers of people with dementia to support their psychological needs.
The post involves community work and home visiting, so applicants must be able to demonstrate ability/offer a strategy to undertake visits safely and efficiently.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment, intervention and therapy to older people referred to the service. This will be a mix of clinic based appointments and home visits. There will also be opportunities to be involved in group work.
The post holder will be able to work autonomously within professional guidelines to deliver therapy to older people presenting with a range of emotional difficulties. At times this may also involve working with carers, families and liaison with other health professionals.
There will be opportunities to contribute to research, audit and service development.
