Mental Health Support Assistant - Hastings

We are working closely with a range of specialist SEMH schools and alternative provisions across East Sussex, and we're looking for dedicated practitioners to join their teams.

The Role:

As a Mental Health Support Assistant, you will support children and young people who may be experiencing:

  • Anxiety, depression, or emotional regulation difficulties
  • Trauma, attachment needs, or challenging behaviour
  • Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs

You'll work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams to help students feel safe, understood, and supported throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group emotional support
  • Helping students regulate emotions and manage behaviour
  • Building positive, trusting relationships
  • Supporting learning engagement and wellbeing
  • Following individual support plans and safeguarding procedures

About You:

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • A genuine interest in mental health, psychology, or SEN
  • Experience working with children or young people (desirable, not essential)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain resilient in challenging situations
