We're looking for Psychology Graduates and Graduates from other relevant, transferable degrees who have completed university within the last 5 years to work as Learning Support Assistants in Primary Schools across North Durham.

No specific teaching qualifications are required for this role. We're looking for graduates with a relevant degree, such as Psychology, Education, Coaching, Counselling, Youth Work or a similar subject, alongside recent, referenceable employment experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting children in an educational setting, develop your understanding of behaviour and learning, and build valuable experience for a future career in educational, clinical or child psychology.

Learning Support Assistant - Main Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with their learning, development and wellbeing
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to help pupils reach their potential
  • Encourage independence by developing pupils' communication, confidence and self-management skills
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with children
  • Encourage and motivate pupils to engage consistently in lessons and school life
  • Support positive behaviour and help create a calm, inclusive learning environment
  • Maintain safeguarding and confidentiality at all times, following school policies and procedures
Learning Support Assistant - Requirements & Skills
  • Essential: Graduated within the last 5 years with a relevant and transferable degree, such as Psychology, Education, Coaching, Counselling or a similar subject
  • Essential: Recent, referenceable employment within the last 2 years
  • A genuine interest in supporting children's learning, development and wellbeing
  • A positive attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • A patient, calm and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience working with children or in an education setting is desirable
  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education or a related area, or equivalent hands-on experience, is desirable
