How Aisel is supporting mental healthcare with AI

Augusta

Across the globe, we are in a mental health crisis. Demand is soaring, yet supply is static. In the western world, and in the UK, waitlists for mental health services and psychiatric consultations now stretch to months - sometimes years. And while no one questions the need for more hands on deck, there's a deeper issue at play: the way psychiatric care is delivered simply doesn’t scale.

At Aisel, we believe the future of mental healthcare doesn’t lie in replacing human connection, but in giving clinicians the tools to do what they do best - better, faster, and with less burnout. Through AI-powered clinical services, we help psychiatrists streamline their assessments, scale their practices, and provide care that’s both faster and more consistent - without ever compromising quality.

This is our story.

The Challenge: Time is the limiting factor

Mental health diagnosis remains a deeply human task. It requires time, dialogue, nuance, and trust. Unlike other specialties, there’s no lab test to confirm ADHD or a quick scan to detect depression. Every case is unique, shaped by a patient's history, symptoms, and context. This complexity is part of psychiatry’s richness - but also its Achilles’ heel.

On average, psychiatrists spend 60–90 minutes per new patient just to gather subjective information. Multiply that by hundreds of patients per year, and it's easy to see why the system is at capacity.

Clinics often try to protect their clinicians' time by offloading intake forms or scheduling triage calls with junior staff. But this introduces new problems: poor data quality, repetitive patient experiences, and missed clinical nuances. It’s inefficient for everyone involved.

That’s where Aisel comes in.

Our Solution: AI-powered clinical tools

Aisel is a digital platform that allows psychiatrists and mental health professionals to offload selected parts of the clinical process to an AI co-pilot. Three of our features are Aisel Assessor, Aisel Monitor, and Aisel Dictaphone support the assessment and follow-up stages of care.

Here’s how it works.

Aisel Assessor conducts the initial patient interview via secure, guided AI conversations. Patients speak or type at their own pace, often from home, answering structured questions based on validated psychiatric protocols. The result: a draft clinical report capturing the patient’s history, symptoms, and subjective experience - ready for review and editing by the psychiatrist.

Aisel Monitor extends that support across the treatment phase. It collects follow-up data, symptom updates, and patient feedback through AI-facilitated check-ins, saving time and offering consistent insights.

Aisel Dictaphone is a secure, integrated feature that allows clinicians to record patient sessions or dictate clinical notes directly within the platform. Designed for ease of use, it supports both voice-to-text transcription and audio storage, streamlining documentation while preserving clinical accuracy.

Together, these tools have been shown to save 20–35 minutes per patient - time that can be reallocated to higher-value clinical work. Our early results show up to a 36% increase in clinic capacity and over €100,000 in added revenue per psychiatrist annually.

Why patients actually prefer it

When people hear "AI in mental health," they often worry about replacing the human touch. In reality, our tools do the opposite: they give clinicians more time to connect.

Interestingly, many patients actually feel more comfortable opening up to a digital tool during the first interaction. Without fear of judgment, they take the time they need to reflect and respond - often leading to richer, more complete narratives. Aisel doesn’t make diagnoses or treatment decisions; it just ensures the psychiatrist receives a high-quality, structured report that reduces cognitive load and accelerates care.

And importantly, nothing is shared with the clinic without the patient's review and consent.

100% compliant

Built on best practice, not just technology

Our approach isn’t to build generic chatbots and hope they work. Every Aisel conversation is anchored in clinical standards - such as PSE-9 and ICD-10 - and designed in collaboration with practicing psychiatrists and medical advisors. We’ve spent countless hours mapping the psychiatric assessment journey to ensure that every prompt, every follow-up question, is contextually relevant and clinically valid.

We also design for flexibility. Every clinic works differently, and Aisel adapts to that reality. Whether a clinic uses its own forms or prefers certain phrasing, we tailor the experience to their workflow -and we do it quickly. Integration is low-touch, and there’s no need to overhaul existing EHR systems. Aisel runs as a light layer on top, bringing clinical value without disruption.

What makes it different?

In the age of GenAI, many are familiar with solutions as ChatGPT and perhaps use it already. So, what’s different? The answer is simple - prompting isn’t the bottleneck. Psychiatric professionals don’t need another tool to answer their questions. They need a tool that asks the right ones - at the right time, in the right way, with the right clinical depth.

That’s why Aisel flips the script. Instead of relying on the user to initiate, our AI prompts the patient with a sequence crafted by clinicians, tailored to psychiatric context, and validated by user feedback.

Moreover, we take privacy seriously. All data is handled in compliance with GDPR, with clinical and conversational data stored in separate systems. Patients are never asked for unnecessary identifiers, and their control over data sharing is built into the flow.

Who uses Aisel?

Aisel is currently used by private psychiatric clinics across Denmark and the UK. Our model is B2B SaaS, priced per report, allowing clinics to scale usage with clear ROI.

Typical partners include:

  • Independent psychiatrists and small private practices
  • Mid-size clinics looking to optimize operations
  • Hospitals exploring AI-assisted pre-consultation and triage

Early adopters have praised Aisel for both its usability and patient response. One clinic went from testing Aisel on a handful of patients to integrating it into all new intakes within weeks. Another referred four additional clinics - a testament to both satisfaction and word-of-mouth trust.

What’s next

We're launching a Platform 2.0 in July 2025, which will offer greater modularity, deeper integration, and enhanced compliance tooling (including pursuit of CE-marking). We’re also building a lightweight patient-facing app to support ongoing engagement, plus dashboards for clinicians to monitor progress and outcomes at scale.

Our vision

We believe AI can and should be used to strengthen - not replace - the therapeutic alliance. Mental healthcare is ultimately human. But by offloading the repetitive, the administrative, and the structurally complex to machines, we free clinicians to focus on the meaningful, the difficult, and the healing.

If that sounds like the future of mental healthcare to you, we invite you to follow our journey.
