ROLE DESCRIPTION Trustee – Funding &amp; Bid Application ReviewWe are seeking a new Trustee to strengthen our multi-skilled and hard-working board, with specific expertise in funding and bid applications.While we already have skilled board members and volunteers who can write strong funding applications, what we currently lack is the time and experience to:<ul><li>Research potential funding opportunities</li><li>Review and filter which opportunities are worth pursuing</li><li>Summarise and present recommendations to the Board and staff</li></ul>This new Trustee role would add significant value to the work we already provide - by helping us focus our efforts on the most promising funding sources.Skills and BackgroundWe are open to a range of professional backgrounds. You may not be actively working or may have a little time free to support us in this role, but we are looking for people who can bring the following:<ul><li>Experience in bid applications, grant funding, or fundraising — particularly in identifying and assessing opportunities</li><li>Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to weigh up eligibility, likelihood of success, and fit with our charity’s mission</li><li>Confidence in working with information, making judgements, and communicating clear summaries to colleagues</li><li>A background in areas such as fundraising, charity administration, project management, finance, business development, or legal/governance would all be relevant and useful</li></ul>CommitmentAs a Trustee, this voluntary role involves attending Board meetings, which are approximately every two months, an annual strategy day, occasional working groups and the AGM. Meetings are held in person where possible, with online options available. We also hold fundraising events, which you are warmly encouraged to support. Hugh Baird College is seeking two individuals to join our Corporation Board as Designated Governors for Finance and Audit.&nbsp;These are charitable, unpaid roles, offering a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise to a thriving educational institution.&nbsp;About the Roles<ul><li>Finance Governor Join Hugh Baird College at an exciting time in its journey to Outstanding Financial Health. As a volunteer Governor for Finance, you’ll use your financial knowledge to support strategic planning and ensure resources are used effectively. You’ll contribute to a supportive team, helping to promote transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. </li><li>Audit Governor Support Hugh Baird College’s progress toward Outstanding Financial Health by helping review risk management and internal controls. As a volunteer Governor for Audit, you’ll offer a fresh perspective to strengthen transparency and good practice. You’ll be part of a collaborative team, with guidance provided, ideal for someone with a keen eye and a desire to make a difference.</li></ul>What We’re Looking ForWe welcome applications from individuals with:<ul><li>Professional qualifications in finance, audit, or accountancy (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIA)</li><li>Willingness to learn and adapt: Open to gaining new knowledge about governance and the education sector, even if not previously familiar. </li><li>Strong analytical, communication, and strategic thinking skills</li><li>A collaborative and inclusive approach to governance</li><li>Commitment to equality, safeguarding, and continuous development</li></ul>Time Commitment<ul><li>Dependent upon your role as governor, you will normally be asked to attend a minimum of 4 (if a co-opted governor) to 8 meetings in an academic year. &nbsp;</li><li>Most of these meetings will be held from 5.00 pm onwards.&nbsp;</li></ul>
