  <p><strong>An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, permanent, Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work in the Community Children and Young People's Service (CYPS) in the Northumberland team.</strong> </p>
<p>We welcome applicants who have experience working with children and young people although this is not essential. It is essential that applicants are registered as a Speech and Language Therapist and have previous experience working within a mental health, learning disability or neurodevelopmental setting and/or team. We are interested in appointing a dedicated and committed individual who can demonstrate their ability to engage and work collaboratively with others/partner agencies and understand complex systems in order to support effective pathways.</p>
<p>CYPS provide care, treatment and assessment for young people with complex, moderate to severe needs over the whole of Northumberland. </p>
<p>The multi-disciplinary team comprises a highly skilled and experienced workforce of consultant psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychotherapists, social workers, art therapists and support workers. The team are dedicated, compassionate and always put young people and their families at the centre of everything they do.</p>



  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>You will provide specialist SALT assessment, intervention and recommendations for children and young people accessing these services. You will work as an integral member of the CYPS MDT and support the ongoing development of the SALT provision in the service.</p>
<p>You should have qualifications and experience relevant in this clinical field and work well as part of a close team and be able to work independently. You will liaise closely with fellow professionals to address communication difficulties as part of a holistic, service user centred service and be confident in providing high quality, evidence-based assessments and interventions and possess excellent communication and organisational skills as well as have the ability to work independently.</p>
<p>The post will be based at St Georges Park Hospital in Morpeth, Northumberland. You will be required to travel to other sites across the Trust as part of the role.</p>

<h2>Job summary</h2>
  <p>The post holderwill provide direct clinical and operational leadership for a team of Head and Neck and Voice SLTs working within St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This team provides services to Head and Neck oncology, general ENT and OMFS services and Voice/ respiratory and laryngology services. The post holder will line manage the team members, complete appraisals, clinical supervision, oversee clinical caseload management, service development and governance. They will provide joint sessions, second opinions and highly specialist treatment and advice for patients across the acute caseload.</p>  <p>The post holder will be expected to lead collaborative working with patients/clients, carers and with colleagues in Health, the voluntary sector and Social Services in planning and delivery of services. In particular to work with consultants/ GP's &amp; multidisciplinary management teams within St. George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to ensure coordinated service delivery.</p>



  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>To Provide expert leadership and governance oversight to the SLT ENT Teams .</p> <p>To Independently manage highly complex clients within the ENT/ Oncology and OMFS caseloads independently making differential diagnosis &amp; clinical management decisions on the basis of evidence from assessment, frequently weighing up complex clinical management decisions in the context of conflicting clinical indicators.</p> <p>To develop and maintain expert clinical competence and deliver expert clinical service, through the whole SLT team, to patients in all clinical areas above</p> <p>To develop and implement expert level Speech and Language Therapy treatment programmes within the service , providing thorough services and evaluation through clinical outcomes.</p> <p>To keep up to date with new techniques and developments for the promotion and maintenance of excellent practice in tracheostomy management, Fibre Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), and Videofluoroscopy (VFS)</p> <p>To provide specialist clinical technical skills for interpretive assessment techniques such as AAC communication </p> <p>To be responsible for the leadership &amp; co-ordination of ENT Specialist Speech &amp; Language therapy extended scope clinics at St George's Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital such as VFS, EEL and FEES, liaising with other professionals and referral agencies, and providing training opportunities to other colleagues as appropriate.</p>
