If so, join St Mary’s Hospital as a Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist to provide strategic leadership, expert clinical oversight and recovery-focused care for people within the criminal justice system. Acting as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act, you will ensure the highest standards of psychiatric care across medium and low secure services.
In this role, you will lead the clinical management of a defined caseload, overseeing psychiatric assessments, formulations, and treatment planning. You will provide specialist advice to courts, probation, prison services and MAPPA, and prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals, hospital managers’ hearings, and the Ministry of Justice. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams—including forensic social workers, psychologists, and occupational therapists—you will ensure coordinated care and effective implementation of the Care Programme Approach.
Beyond clinical leadership, you will play a key role in service development, shaping strategy, and contributing to pathway reconfiguration to meet evolving needs. You will actively participate in clinical governance, audits, and risk management processes, supporting quality improvement and compliance with CQC/HIW standards. Your responsibilities will also include teaching and supervision of trainee psychiatrists and junior medical staff, as well as leading research and quality-improvement projects to inform best practice.
As a Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:

Working 37.5 hours a week, you will provide care and treatment for adult women with a wide range of mental health issues, responsible for delivering care programmes, managing physical and mental health concerns and providing&nbsp;individualised approaches to the care and treatment of people admitted to the hospital.


Arbury Court are seeking a Full Time Consultant Psychiatrist, preferably on the Specialist Register for Forensic to run a medium or low secure ward depending on preference.

What you will be doing:
You will&nbsp;provide specialist care and treatment to adult male patients who are detained under the Mental Health Act (1983). Our service users, many of whom have Acquired Brain Injury and forensic histories, require long term treatment and rehabilitation and present with multiple difficulties, including high risk behaviour and complex care needs. St Mary's hospital offers a breadth of opportunity and experience for clinical work, &nbsp;with a medium secure and a low secure ward; a Level 2 rehabilitation ward; and an Acute service. This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week.&nbsp;
In collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and under the direction and supervision of the Joint Heads of Psychology, you will support the delivery of psychology services across St Mary’s Hospital. In the absence of the Joint Heads, you will act as the primary point of contact between the psychology department and the senior management team.
As the Forensic/ Clinical/ Counselling/ Neuro Psychologist you will have active participation in multidisciplinary team work, ensuring that our service users are fully engaged in their care pathways. It also includes supporting clinical team efforts through both direct interventions and the facilitation of staff training programmes. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new initiatives and ways of working within the service and working in partnership with both internal and external agencies to enhance treatment pathways for service users.
There is a strong emphasis on teamwork, supervision and CPD, with support from a regional network of Psychologists.
As a&nbsp;Forensic/ Clinical/ Counselling/ Neuro&nbsp;Psychologist you will be:
<ul>
 <li>Providing psychological assessments of patients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological (and neuropsychological) tests, self-report measures, rating scales direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the patient’s care.</li>
 <li>Formulating plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of acquired brain injury and forensic risk designed around the patient’s needs, and employing methods unpinned by relevant evidence-based practice and appropriate conceptual frameworks.</li>
 <li>Implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals within and across teams.</li>
 <li>Acting as psychologist for a ward and/or group of patients as directed by the Joint Heads of Psychology.</li>
 <li>Developing and managing groupwork programmes and innovative therapeutic approaches and ensuring that appropriate outcome measures are in place.</li>
 <li>Taking a key role in Psychology service developments, providing an evidence-based approach to new clinical initiatives.</li>

To be successful, you'll have:
<ul>
 <li>Successful completion of a Doctorate level qualification in applied psychology (clinical, forensic, counselling, neuro) either through the British Psychological Society or a recognised training body, enabling registration with the HCPC as as Practitioner Psychologist.</li>
 <li>Applications from Psychologists in Training who are nearly qualified are welcomed 
 </li>
 <li>Experience (either pre-training, on training, or subsequently) of working with clients with complex needs that are relevant to the service population. This can include forensic, neuropsychological rehabilitation, learning difficulty, neurodiversity and complex trauma.</li>
 <li>Competency in psychological assessment and formulation skills and an aptitude for learning new assessment methods including standardised cognitive assessment (WAIS, RBANS etc)</li>
 <li>A well developed competency in structured risk assessment and management tools.</li>
 <li>Experience in one or more therapeutic modalities (CBT, DBT, CAT, CFT, EMDR etc)</li>

Practitioner Psychologist

Our Community First Responder (CFR) scheme is a life-saving partnership with local communities. As authorised volunteers CFRs form teams across Yorkshire to help reduce the number of pre-hospital deaths.Our CFRs are trained to provide life-saving treatment to patients in the vital first few minutes of an emergency until our ambulance crew arrives. If effective treatment is provided quickly, lives can be saved and disability reduced. This is especially true for heart attacks and medical conditions which have caused someone to lose consciousness.When a 999 call is received in our Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), an ambulance response is dispatched. At the same time, a CFR on-call in the area can be alerted and asked to attend the incident to ensure that help reaches the patient as quickly as possible.As our volunteers are based within the community, they may only be a minute or two away from a medical emergency and very often their role is to simply provide vital reassurance to patients and their families until the ambulance crew arrives. However, in extreme cases, such as a cardiac arrest, they can perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) to try and restart someone’s heart, which can potentially save their life.Anyone who wants to help their community can become a CFR.No previous medical experience or training is necessary, but you will need a caring attitude and be able to cope with potentially distressing situations.You need to:<ul><li>be aged 18 or over</li><li>hold a valid, full UK driving licence, with no more than three penalty points</li><li>have access to a vehicle</li><li>be prepared to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service Check</li><li>be prepared to undertake occupational health screening</li><li>be prepared to undertake our 4 day CFR course.
