If you’re an Associate Specialist looking for a new opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary team in an established secure service setting delivering&nbsp;high-quality clinical service to people with complex mental health conditions across the medium and low secure service.
Working part time 18.75 hours a week alongside the unit's multidisciplinary team, including the Consultant, to ensure that service users receive a holistic and person-centric treatment programme based on the recovery model.

As an Associate Specialist, you will ensure the high quality first-line medical care of our inpatients, liaise effectively with external professionals and carers, provide written and oral evidence for Hospital Managers’ and Tribunal hearings, work towards safe discharges including preparing discharge summaries, reports and other necessary documentation and be a valued and effective member of the multidisciplinary team at Thornford Park Hospital
This established service looks to continually innovate, improve and deliver excellent care for its service users, has an active programme of education and research and provides significant developmental opportunities for its staff.
There are currently four other Associate Specialists working in the service. There is no formal on-call commitment attached to the role, but there are opportunities to join the on-call rota through a locum agency which provides on-call services for the hospital.

Other Responsibilities include:

 <li>Ensuring an adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours</li>
 <li>Reviewing the mental state of patients as per the hospital procedure</li>
 <li>Ensuring that each patient has a full physical health screen upon admission including physical examination, ECG and bloods</li>
 <li>Lead and manage any physical health concerns that emerge during an inpatient stay</li>
 <li>Seeking collateral history from other professionals and family</li>
 <li>Completing discharge letters/reports/s62 forms</li>
 <li>Preparing First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers’ hearing reports under the supervision of the Consultant</li>
 <li>Depending on your experience, providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers’ hearings under the supervision of the Consultant</li>
 <li>Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.&nbsp;</li>
 <li>Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times, which will require participation on an on-call rota for the Thornford Park Hospital site</li>
</ul>
To be successful as a Specialty Doctor, you’ll need:

Thornford Park Hospital, part of Elysium Healthcare, is an independent 143 bedded hospital set in 23 acres of parkland on the outskirts of Newbury, Berkshire (close to the Hampshire borders).
We provide services for male and female patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) who require care in conditions of medium and low security. Our service users, many of whom have forensic histories, require long-term treatment and rehabilitation and present with multiple problems, challenging and high-risk behaviour and complex care needs. In addition to the mental health wards, Thornford Park has a 14-bedded low secure service for male patients with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, commissioned by NHS England, a medium/low secure service for females with a Learning Disability, and a medium secure service for males with Learning Disability. We also have two Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, one for males and one for females, providing holistic assessment and treatment for individuals experiencing crisis.

What you will be doing Reporting to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of delivering strategic and clinical strategies to grow and further develop the care pathway through specialist psychological advice and consultations. You will lead and oversee the specialised psychological programme and the transdisciplinary team where you will provide supervision and training to your peers to ensure they understand the concepts and principles underpinning the framework and the specialised skills required to work successfully within this service model. You will have experience and knowledge in carrying a designated caseload, including assessing service users with complex needs, and designing and delivering specialist psychological treatment within mental health care services. As a Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist you will be: <ul> <li>Autonomous in managing your own caseload, which will involve working with complex service-users.</li><li>Attending regular clinical and service development meetings, such as MDT's, CPA's, referrals, and other hospital-wide meetings</li><li>An integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team on the two PICU's</li><li>Providing both long &amp; short-term work, which includes being able to undertake clinical assessments to determine clinical needs &amp; treatment plans.</li><li>Providing both individual and group work to the patients.</li><li>Maintaining monthly clinical supervision as well as regular line-management supervision</li><li>Providing clinical supervision to nursing staff/therapy staff as appropriate and facilitating in the provision of reflective practice.</li><li>Providing both written &amp; verbal contributions to MDT &amp; CPA process</li><li>Supporting the MDT in the development and review of care plans</li><li>Offering specialist clinical advice including the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care within the service</li><li>Contributing to professional development within the team</li><li>Contributing to teaching as part of Induction/mandatory training.</li><li>Contributing to audit and research as directed by the line manager</li></ul> To be successful in this role, you'll need: <ul> <li>BPS accredited and HCPC approved Doctorate.</li><li>Have HCPC Registration.</li><li>Chartered Member of the BPS.</li><li>Evidence of engagement in mental health networks.</li><li>Post-doctoral level knowledge and application of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis.</li><li>Experience in using psychological models and theories to address a range of risk and behavioural issues.</li></ul> Where you will be working: Location: Thornford Park, Crookham Hill, Thatcham, Berkshire, RG19 8ET Thornford Park Hospital, part of Elysium Healthcare, is an independent 143 bedded hospital set in 23 acres of parkland on the outskirts of Newbury, Berkshire (close to the Hampshire borders). We provide services for male and female patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) who require care in conditions of medium and low security. Our service users, many of whom have forensic histories, require long-term treatment and rehabilitation and present with multiple problems, challenging and high-risk behaviour and complex care needs. In addition to the mental health wards, Thornford Park has a 14-bedded low secure service for male patients with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, commissioned by NHS England, a medium/low secure service for females with a Learning Disability, and a medium secure service for males with Learning Disability.
