Croydon Drop In (CDI) are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Student Volunteer Counsellors on Placement to work within our award-winning Voluntary Sector services. The post-holder will work within our safeguarding protocols to provide safe interventions for children and young people using evidence-based methodologies. The post holder will safely work with people across different cultural backgrounds and ages and will be committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. 
Our team is supported by student practitioners completing their final year of their practitioner studies.
Please note:
Counselling training providers usually require you to obtain a certain amount of client contact hours with adults i.e. 18 years plus, therefore it’s important to note that the majority of clients accessing our CDI counselling services are under 18 years of age. As a student placement provider, CDI makes for an ideal 2nd placement that will ensure you have adequate young people contact hours, largely under 18 years of age, providing you with the learning experiences you need to meet the competency requirements of your training course and provider. It is important to check with your training provider, the cap on the number of under 18 years of age clients permitted for your course.

Job summary&nbsp;
In line with the governments priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.&nbsp;
&nbsp;Main duties of the job&nbsp;
This is a training position post holder will undertake training at Kings College London alongside working in service for Croydon Drop In. They will be taught to deliver evidence based guided self-help interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.&nbsp; The post holder will use their newly developed skills to support children and young people who are referred into the service and trainees will receive supervision to support their professional development.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Applicants will need to be ready to start work in early/mid-January 2026 and posts cannot be offered to candidates unless they can guarantee this start date.&nbsp;

Job responsibilities&nbsp;
We are seeking to recruit 1 graduate level practitioners to provide guided self-help therapy and parenting interventions. These posts are salaried at NHS Agenda for Change band 4 and fully funded for a one year post graduate diploma in Education Mental Health Practice through Kings College London. Further intensive supervision and on the job training will be provided by an experienced supervisor within each team. There will be a strong expectation for trainees to continue in post on successful completion of the one year training, with a salary increase to NHS Band 5 scale for the second year onwards.&nbsp;
Successful candidates will be employed on a full-time basis within a Mental Health Support Team delivering individual, group and workshop-based mental health interventions within a borough-based cluster of schools.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As a CYPMHS Consultant Psychiatrist employed by Elysium Healthcare but seconded to SABP through the hybrid clinical and operational model, you will deliver an evidence-based and focused treatment plan to support the children and young people, and their families, as they progress through their care plans to understand eating behaviours and restore physical health.&nbsp;
You will work alongside the talented and experienced multidisciplinary team to create tailored treatment programmes to support the individual needs of each young person within a warm and nurturing environment. This will allow you to understand symptoms, patterns and origins of psychological distress.&nbsp;
Your responsibilities will include:

 <li>Reviewing referrals and determine appropriateness for admission</li>
 <li>Conducting admission assessments and maintain effective management plans of all young people on the unit</li>
 <li>Conducting risk assessments and review regularly</li>
 <li>Allocating specialist psychological treatments in line with individual needs</li>
 <li>Assessing physical health</li>
 <li>Ensuring effective liaison with referring teams</li>
 <li>Facilitating regular CPA review meeting</li>
 <li>Acting as Responsible Clinician for young people detained under the Mental Health Act</li>
 <li>Involvement in quality, inspections and governance processes</li>
