<p>Counsellors&nbsp;on Placement provide emotional and therapeutic support to children and young people aged 4-18 in Place2Be partner schools. As an organisation that has adopted the BACP ethical framework of good practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, counsellors working within the organisation are dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of the children they work with.</p>
<ul type="disc">
    <li>Place2Be provides a high level of support to counsellors on placement through regular supervision, tailored training workshops and offers a well-recognised clinical placement*.</li>
    <li>We provide a comprehensive induction programme and clinical supervision is undertaken at the end of each day.</li>
    <li>We need you to be available for a minimum of one day per week to work in a therapeutic capacity with up to 3 children offering one-to-one counselling.</li>
    <li>Placements are term time only and run for one academic year. There are opportunities for you to stay with us beyond one year.</li>
    <li>You will have the opportunity to attend up to six optional workshops throughout the year which are recognised as continuing professional development time.</li>
    <li>Sessions spent with children are accepted as clinical hours towards professional accreditation, and are recognised by the BACP and UKCP.</li>
    <li>A placement is an excellent stepping stone into a job opportunity and career with Place2Be, over&nbsp;⅔&nbsp;of our clinical staff were once Counsellors on Placement.</li>
    <li>We have places available in our projects in both primary and secondary schools nationwide.</li>

<p>*<strong>Counting your hours</strong></p>
<p>All clinical hours gained on placement can be used towards accreditation with a body such as BACP and UKCP. However if you need to gain clinical hours for your course, we would strongly advise that you check with your course tutor as to whether child hours are accepted before applying. If your course does not accept child hours but you would like to gain counselling experience of working with Children and Young People, you can still apply for a Place2Be placement as a second placement.</p>

<p>You will be a fully qualified Counsellor, Therapist or studying towards one of these professions at the following levels:</p>

    <li>Diploma in Counselling (Level 4 or above). If you are in your first year you will have completed a full academic year Certificate Course in Counselling or the equivalent of 9 - 12 months.</li>
    <li>Degree, MSc or MA in Counselling or Psychotherapy - if you are in your first year you will have relevant experience of direct work with children.</li>

  <p> Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service. 
2 * Undertake patient-centred interviews which identifies areas where the 
person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate 
assessment of risk to self and others.
3 * Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the 
department's referral protocols, refers unsuitable clients on to the 
relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or steps-up 
the person's treatment to high intensity psychological therapy.
4 * Provide a range of information and support for evidence based highvolume low-intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided 
self-help computerised CBT, information about pharmacological 
treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other 
media. 
5 * Educate and involve family members and others in treatment, as 
necessary.
6 * Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the overall number of 
client contacts offered, and clinical sessions conducted per week in 
order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains 
accessible and convenient.
7 * Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in 
treatment, where appropriate.
8 * Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.

Warrington Talking Therapies offers exciting opportunities for trainee PWPs such as weekly buddy time where you have regular peer support in addition to weekly case management supervision and fortnightly group clinical skills supervision. Staff also have twice monthly catch ups with time set aside for socialising and wellbeing in the monthly team meeting and their Step 2 Meeting.
 
About the role
The post holder will work within the service, whilst undertaking a programme of training at John Moores University, where they will progressively learn how to deliver low intensity interventions, at high volume, with patients with anxiety and depression. You will receive excellent support in the role including extensive clinical and caseload supervision.
 
You will offer a range of effective treatment and support available to people with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety and extend this support to provide psychological intervention services to adults with an intellectual/learning disability who have concurrent common mental health problems.
 
The post holder will split their time between university attendance and working in service, conducting assessments, and providing face to face and remote Low Intensity Interventions.
Please note: It is a requirement of the role, that successful candidates seek BABCP accreditation within 6 months of relevant patient contact and qualifying.
 
 
About you
You will have experience of working with Mental Health and will be able to inspire and engage people and have the ability to identify barriers and understand client needs, while possessing excellent motivational skills.
 
You will have an understanding of working with people with a variety of complex needs, and experience of working with mental health, physical health, learning needs and substance misuse issues would be an advantage for this post. Your knowledge of working within a community-based service is essential and will have equipped you with the relevant communication and interpersonal skills required to build good therapeutic relationships with clients
 
You will be able to demonstrate high standards in written communication as well as excellent verbal communication including telephone skills.   <p>Working alongside our Crisis Recovery Workers, you will be part of the Mental Health Matters team offering free  mental health support 7 nights per week from 6pm to midnight.  Our services are provided in a  welcoming, comfortable, non-judgmental, and non-clinical environment.</p>



  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>Peer Support Workers have lived experience, and the knowledge gained from that 
experience, is the foundation of peer support, helping build connections between peer 
support workers and the people they work with. (PSW Competency Framework, 
2020). Peer Support Workers in MHM work alongside Recovery Workers and other 
staff, their role requires that they draw directly from their own experience of mental 
health difficulties or caring for someone who experiences mental health difficulties.</p>
