<p>This is an opportunity for a qualified counsellor to join our team. You will be working in a supportive team environment where you can benefit from flexible working whilst supporting adults by providing specialist bereavement counselling from Glangwili General Hospital site.</p>
<p>The Bereavement Support Service is a specialist Counselling Service within Carmarthenshire. The successful applicant will be based in Carmarthen, however will need to be willing to travel to other sites within Carmarthenshire if required, such as our partner site at Ty Bryngwyn. We offer a blended model of engagement, including the use of virtual platforms as well as face to face.</p>
<p>The applicant will require experience working within a team and in providing bereavement counselling.</p>



  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>You will be working within the Bereavement Support Service providing counselling to service users within Carmarthenshire, however you will need to be willing to work across the county of Carmarthenshire within Hywel Dda University Health Board if required. You will be conducting assessments and providing counselling supportwith a mixed model approach face to face, telephone and online<strong>.</strong> You will be required to work autonomously as part of a team, alongside and in partnership with other Healthcare professionals and Services within clinical settings.</p>
<p>The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.</p>

<h2>Job summary</h2>
  <p>We are seeking an experienced and compassionate counsellor to join our team and help lead the delivery of a responsive and person-centred bereavement service.</p>
<p>The post holder will provide high-quality pre- and post-bereavement counselling to individuals and families, based on evidence-based practice and in line with statutory requirements and NHS policies. Working across hospital and community settings, you will support both adults and children, ensuring safe, individualised, and effective care.</p>
<p>This role also involves co-ordinating the day-to-day running of the counselling service, including the supervision and development of counsellors, students, and volunteers. You will contribute to service planning and development, and be responsible for maintaining high standards of practice and clinical governance.</p>
<p>The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and bring both clinical expertise and leadership experience within a bereavement or counselling setting.</p>



  <h3>Main duties of the job</h3>
  <p>The role involves day-to-day coordination of the Bereavement Support Service, including the management and support of a multidisciplinary team. The post holder will contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of high-quality bereavement care across the Hywel Dda University Health Board area, underpinned by research evidence, best practice, and clinical expertise.</p> <p>They will hold shared responsibility for managing a defined caseload independently, using recognised assessment tools and clinical judgement to deliver holistic, personalised therapeutic care. This includes assessing, monitoring, and coordinating support programmes in partnership with clients and other professionals, tailored to individual needs, context, and culture -- with the aim of promoting health and empowerment.</p> <p>The post holder will be expected to recognise, report, and respond appropriately to any unsafe practices, while actively promoting high standards of care. You will lead in ensuring the neurobehavioural model of rehabilitation is delivered through multi/inter disciplinary working. You will consult with internal and external professionals, family members and service users. You will engage in relevant research and advise other professionals as appropriate.</p> <strong>MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong> <ul><li>To provide specialist psychological assessment and neuropsychological assessment of adults with acquired brain injury referred to Brainkind and related services, utilising and interpreting information from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the service user's care.</li><li>To complete pre-admission assessments, highly developing specialist, collaborative and holistic neurobehavioural formulations of an individual's rehabilitation needs, including the development of SMART goals.</li><li>To coordinate Service User's care as appropriate and agreed with your supervisor, in the role of keyworker/clinical lead.</li><li>To be responsible for relevant data collection on work activities, as required.</li><li>To formulate and implement plans of highly specialist psychological and/or neuropsychological intervention to support the neurobehavioural rehabilitation of adults with acquired brain injury as part of the multi/inter disciplinary team, based on current evidence-based best practice.</li><li>To elicit personal goals from service users and translate this to specific, measurable, achievable, relevant timed SMART goals with the team.</li><li>To undertake a range of psychological therapeutic and rehabilitation interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities (individual, family, group) adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual and the context and ongoing evaluation of the outcomes of the intervention.</li><li>To be responsible for providing a specialist psychological perspective in the multi/inter disciplinary assessment of service users and their families. You will highly contribute specialist psychological and neuropsychological advice to the multi/inter disciplinary formulation of appropriate therapeutic approaches or intervention plans, and to be involved in, or oversee specialist psychological aspects of their implementation in collaborations with other staff.</li><li>To undertake psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant clients and provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk to the multi/inter disciplinary team.</li><li>To consult with and provide specialist psychological guidance to carers and families of service users.</li><li>To exercise autonomous professional judgement and responsibility for the psychological management of service users on own caseload.</li><li>To participate in regular on call support for the Unit on a rota basis.</li><li>To demonstrate a duty of care to equipment and resources supplied by Brainkind.</li></ul><p><strong>About You</strong></p><ul><li>Degree in Psychology accepted by BPS for Graduate Basis Registration (GBR) or equivalent.</li><li>Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (BPS accredited) or its equivalent to meet requirements to register as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC.</li><li>Registered with the HCPC</li><li>Demonstrate an interest in clinical neuropsychology.</li><li>General knowledge of acquired brain injury pathology, neuroanatomy, symptoms, characteristics, course of recovery and rehabilitation approaches.
