Our house offers a calm, safe environment where residents can take time to stabilise and focus on their wellbeing. We provide therapeutic support to help each person feel ready and confident to return home. <p>Join the team as an Associate Specialist at Ty Gwyn Hall and deliver high-quality clinical services to service users in an open rehabilitation setting. The hospital provides 40 male and female beds across four wards and offers a supportive environment where recovery and independence are at the heart of care. </p>
<p>Working closely with the Responsible Clinician and a multi-disciplinary team, you will ensure that each service user receives a holistic, person-centred treatment programme based on the recovery model. Families and friends play an active role in this process, helping individuals progress towards more independent living wherever possible.</p>
<p>As an Associate Specialist, you will take responsibility for reviewing patients’ mental state, managing physical health concerns and ensuring comprehensive health screening upon admission. You will prepare reports for tribunals and hospital managers’ hearings under consultant supervision, and depending on experience, may provide oral evidence. Your role will also involve completing discharge documentation, seeking collateral histories and contributing to clinical governance through audits, research and teaching. Collaboration is key, and you will work effectively with colleagues to maintain medical cover and provide prospective cover during leave periods.</p>


<p><strong>As an Associate Specialist, you will be:</strong></p>
<ul>
    <li>Ensuring an adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours.</li>
    <li>Reviewing the mental state of patients as per the hospital procedure.</li>
    <li>Ensuring that each patient has a full physical health screen upon admission including physical examination, ECG and bloods (the hospital has some phlebotomists).</li>
    <li>Taking a lead with managing any physical health concerns that emerge during inpatient stay.</li>
    <li>Seeking collateral history from other professionals and family.</li>
    <li>Completing discharge letters/reports/s62 forms as required in a timely manner.</li>
    <li>Preparing mental health review tribunal and Hospital Managers’ hearing reports under supervision of Consultant.</li>
    <li>Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.</li>
    <li>You will be supported by the Responsible Clinician to provide oral evidence at Tribunals and Hospital Managers’ hearings as part of your development.</li>
    <li>You will be supported to achieve Section 12 (2)approval and AC status in Wales should you identify this as part of your career development.</li>
    <li>Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times.</li>
    <li>Providing prospective cover to other specialty doctors when they are on leave.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>To be successful in this role, you’ll need:</strong></p>

    <li>Full GMC registration</li>
    <li>Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams</li>
    <li>To be in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists</li>

If so, then join us in this rewarding new role in prevention and early intervention mental health care.</p> <p>The Mental Health in Schools Support Teams (MHST) is an initiative funded by NHS England, Health Education England and partners, with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in the community. MHST's have been set up to offer cognitive behaviour (CBT) interventions to children, young people and their families with low-moderate mental health difficulties. The interventions are (mostly) delivered in a range of education settings for children aged 5 - 18 years old, with the aim of improving access to mental health care for all young people who may need it.</p> <p>AWP are working in partnership with Off the Record (OTR) to co-deliver this model in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) area with the workforce being employed equally across both organisations. <p>All clinical hours gained on placement can be used towards accreditation with a body such as BACP and UKCP. However if you need to gain clinical hours for your course, we would strongly advise that you check with your course tutor as to whether child hours are accepted before applying. If your course does not accept child hours but you would like to gain counselling experience of working with Children and Young People, you can still apply for a Place2Be placement as a second placement.</p>

<p>You will be a fully qualified Counsellor, Therapist or studying towards one of these professions at the following levels:</p>
<ul type="disc">
    <li>Diploma in Counselling (Level 4 or above). If you are in your first year you will have completed a full academic year Certificate Course in Counselling or the equivalent of 9 - 12 months.</li>
    <li>Degree, MSc or MA in Counselling or Psychotherapy - if you are in your first year you will have relevant experience of direct work with children.</li>
</ul>
