Salary: £80 £90 per day (depending on experience and/or qualifications)

The School and Role

Kitts Green Academy, part of the Thrive Education Partnership, is a specialist boys school in Birmingham that supports pupils aged 5 14 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other complex learning differences.

We are seeking a Youth Counsellor who is passionate about supporting children s emotional well-being, behaviour, and mental health. In this vital role, you will work closely with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals to provide one-to-one and small-group interventions. You will help students develop resilience, manage emotions, and overcome barriers to learning through positive relationships and restorative practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group counselling sessions for pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to design and implement emotional support plans.

  • Deliver structured interventions focusing on emotional regulation, resilience, and self-esteem.

  • Act as a trusted adult and positive role model for pupils.

  • Maintain accurate records, safeguarding standards, and confidentiality at all times.

  • Support wider school initiatives that promote wellbeing, inclusion, and positive behaviour.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • A recognised counselling qualification (or relevant youth work/mental health background).

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs.

  • A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

  • Excellent communication, empathy, and de-escalation skills.

  • A proactive and compassionate approach to supporting emotional wellbeing.
