Position SummaryThe whole school counsellor position is a valued member of the TIS Counselling Department who is responsible for providing social and emotional counselling and programs that support social, emotional, and behavioural development, for children ages between Kindergarten and Grade 12.
Supervised, Evaluated and reports to:The whole school counsellor reports to the Head of School and is required to regularly consult and liaise with the relevant Principal, Vice Principals, Child Safeguarding officers, and the Inclusive Education department.
Core Duties and Responsibilities.Provide high-quality crisis intervention and counselling to individuals and groups, to help them understand and overcome personal, social, behavioural or educational challenges;Employ and develop appropriate assessment and screening tools that direct service provision;To identify, track and adjust services and programs to suit school student trends;To be responsible for maintaining appropriate and confidential session notes, records of student progress and producing an annual report;To maintain up to date information such as student numbers, age, concern level, services provided and area of challenges;To provide programs of support that align with the school’s pastoral support programs, providing strategies that empower the students to manage individual needs;To maintain and promote an effective referral system for use by both teachers and students; To regularly attend the student welfare meeting and report on support strategies, progress and services provided to students;To refer and liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead on all cases of concern regarding Child Protection;To maintain dynamic and ongoing assessments of risk for students;To contribute to the safeguarding and the promotion of welfare and personal care of children and young people;Confer with parents/carers, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss children's progress, resolve behavioural, academic, and other challenges, and determine priorities and resources for student needs;To build strong and lasting relationships with the parents/carers of the students accessing counselling services;To promote and raise awareness of mental health across the school;To develop and maintain constructive and collaborative relationships with outside organisations and the in-school counsellors.To refer and guide parents/carers to seek relevant professional assistance outside of school when it is appropriate and required.To continually review and evaluate the service provided, acting on ways for improvement;To provide support, guidance and advice to staff and parents/carers when appropriate and required;Take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with research and developments to improve counselling service provided; When appropriate and essential to provide student and staff support out of school hours;To ensure that teachers and administration are informed of student needs that can impact the educational development of the students in their class;To attend and contribute to the regular counselling team meetings and support all counsellors;To be up to date and aware of the Teacher and Counsellor codes of ethics and ensure all students are treated equally fairly and with respect aligning to the school’s equal opportunities policy;To maintain high levels of communication and professionalism;To support the school’s endeavour to provide excellent teaching and learning for all students;Attend all activities called by the Principal including, but not limited to, meetings, team planning, and computer training, etc;Participate in activities organized to benefit students, parents/carers, and colleagues of TIS;Adhere to the school’s Staff Code of Professional Conduct;Maintain and develop computer skills, which are sufficient to master the School’s equipment and software for administrative and educational purposes.
Additional ResponsibilitiesTo maintain knowledge of services available and collaborate with local organisations in and around Macau;To maintain high levels of communication across all areas of the Student Support to establish that student needs are being met;To deliver information to students, parents/carers and staff via professional development and workshops to upskill and educate on counselling and support topics;Participate in at least one school committee and 2 ECA’s per year.To ensure that areas of Health, Safety and Welfare are adhered to at all times. Demonstrate Skills and CompetenciesBe diligent and knowledgeable in the responsibilities of Child protection;Have experience or an interest in whole family working Have experience of working in developing students' positive social media habits;Have experience working with people dealing with anxiety, depression, self-harm, and bereavement;Have high levels of personal integrity, diligence, and emotional intelligence;Have unwavering understanding in the maintenance of confidentiality;Hold relevant experience of working with K-12 aged students;History of maintaining and developing effective working relationships with students, parents, and fellow professionals;Be a team player who is fully supportive of the inclusive mission and vision of the SchoolBe highly valued as a collaborative member of the TIS Counselling Team and also in the wider school community. Be a competent understanding of the different cultural sensitivities around student support topics;

QualificationsSuccessful completion of a recognised Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Counselling or a valid teaching qualification;Minimum of 2 years of school social and emotional counsellor experience;A strong understanding of written and spoken English;Google Certificate Educator Level 1 (or willing to complete)
