Effective 1 August 2026 Frankfurt International School in Oberursel seeks an experienced, qualified and highly motivated Upper School Counselor for students in Grades 6-8.Length of appointment: Initial two year probationary contract.
The Counselor is directly responsible for students in Grades 6-8. Working as part of a counseling team, in particular, the Counselor shall:
- Provide academic advising and social/emotional counseling
- Assist students in their transition from elementary school to the upper school and assist students new to FIS and those leaving FIS
- Collaborate with counselors and faculty to support the personal/social curriculum
- Deliver part of the PSE curriculum to Grade 6-8 students through Enhanced Learning classes
- Master´s Degree in Counseling (or a related field) strongly preferred
- A minimum of three years successful experience in international school-counseling
- Sound knowledge of adolescent development and age-related issues
- Exemplary interpersonal and relational qualities
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Sound computer skills with knowledge of Google Suite
- Commitment to the goals, objectives and mission of Frankfurt International School
- Provide individual counseling to students and identify potential need for outside referrals
- Joint organization and participation in transition programs for students and parents: those new to the Upper School, new to FIS, and those leaving FIS
- Lead course selection process and scheduling
- Present at grade level parent meetings
- Work with year heads and principal to develop grade level and homeroom activities
- Collaborate with counselors, year heads, teachers and principal to support student progress and well-being
- Communicate with the parents of students, respecting confidentiality
- Mediate student issues in individual and small group settings
- Plan and teach Enhanced Learning classes
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the principal
