Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly skilled genetic counsellor or specialist nurse with experience in Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions to implement the sudden cardiac death pathway, providing leadership and organisation to the multidisciplinary teams involved.
Your role will be focused on improving the quality of the SCD pathway working closely with professionals in the network as well as patients and their families.

As the Sudden Cardiac Death Coordinator your main roles and responsibilities will be to:a) To provide a dedicated Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions (ICC) liaison for the coronial service for all patients and their families affected with sudden cardiac death (SCD).b) To support individuals and families dealing with sudden cardiac death and any associated genetic disorder, including explaining complex medical facts, including the diagnosis, probable course of the disorder, and the available management. Enabling clients to choose the course of actions which seems most appropriate to them.c) To work with local coroners to provide information and educational materials, and act as a significant educational resource to the wider health care system, and the public.
Specific to this role is the suitability for agile working which is a mixture of on-site and remote working. In addition, we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. - AHCS or HCPC (NMC) registration
- MSc Genetic Counselling (following BSc/BA in a relevant subject) and registered with AHCS (Genetic Counsellor) OR RGN, RMN or similar with a BSc/BA or MSc in a relevant subject OR Completed an STP in Genomic counselling (either with HCPC registration or pending)
- Relevant experience in Inherited Cardiac Conditions and the associated clinical patient pathways.
- Excellent communication skills and influencing skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral.
- Experience within an NHS setting.
- Ability to work autonomously and prioritise appropriately using own initiative.
- Manage independent clinical workload
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to analyse research findings to inform practice development
- Demonstrates clinical expertise and insight into the wider implications of their practice
- Familiarity with relevant databases
- Ability to manage and mentor specialist genetic and other staff
- Must be willing to travel to peripheral clinics
