Responsibilities

The School Counselor provides short-term, research-based counseling to students whose social, emotional, or behavioral challenges impact their academic and personal success. Key responsibilities include developing 504 Accommodation Plans and Behavioral Intervention Plans, supporting teachers in implementing these plans, and consulting on student behavioral or emotional concerns.

The role actively participates in the Response to Intervention Team, Student Life Network, and Child Protection and Advocacy Network. The counselor assists the Child Safety Team with investigations, safety assessments, and student support interventions, and helps design effective crisis-intervention programs. They respond to crises as needed and maintain thorough documentation of student cases and urgent situations.

Additional duties include coordinating therapeutic or preventive group programs, overseeing transition support for new and departing students, and facilitating referrals for long-term counseling while serving as a liaison with outside agencies.

Strong collaboration and communication are essential, including maintaining relationships with students, parents, and staff, attending meetings, participating in school committees, and providing progress reports as needed.

What about the remuneration package?

We offer competitive compensation and benefits package that allows for a comfortable standard of living in Nairobi.

This role is for 1 year.

The salary range for this role is USD 18,000 - USD 30,000. Rosslyn's compensation package is benefits heavy and salary light (relative to the entire package that is).

Benefits include: Housing (including furniture, utilities, internet, security, etc.), Free tuition for staff children up to 3 kids, if both spouses are working (combined FTE of 1.5), International Health Insurance coverage (Excluding the US) for the family furlough flights for the family to home country every two years, annual professional development opportunities. A significant benefit is that Rosslyn pays all local/Kenyan taxes on the quoted salary and all benefits (Kenya charges about 30% taxes on all benefits and salary).
