About this role
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated School Counselor to join our vibrant, inclusive international school community at Meritton British International School. This crucial, dual-role position requires a professional with a passion for student development across all age groups and a strong background in both social-emotional support and college/careers guidance.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
  • Essential: A bachelor's or master's Degree and Certification in School Counseling.
  • Experience: Proven experience in college application advising is mandatory.
  • Advantageous: Familiarity with the UK university application system (UCAS) and general knowledge of other international higher education destinations (US, Canada, Europe, etc.).
  • Attributes: Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; a commitment to student well-being; and the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
Key responsibilities (Two distinct focus areas)
1. Social-Emotional Counseling (Early Years to Year 11)
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to students across the school (Early Years/Kindergarten up to age 16/Year 11).
  • Develop and implement whole-school social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and workshops aimed at building resilience, managing stress, fostering positive relationships, and promoting mental health awareness.
  • Serve as a key resource for teachers and parents on student welfare, behavioral concerns, and developmental milestones.
  • Collaborate with the safeguarding team to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
2. College & Careers Counseling (Secondary School)
  • Deliver comprehensive College & Careers guidance to secondary school students (Year 9-11).
  • Manage and provide direct contact time with students for advising, workshops, and career readiness activities.
  • Support students through the entire university application process, including essay brainstorming, standardized test planning, letter of recommendation coordination, and application submission (e.g., Common App, UCAS).
  • Organize and manage college representative visits, career fairs, and information sessions.
