Our client is an HMC co-educational boarding and day school that nurtures academic excellence, sporting success and creative talent. The 400-acre campus on the edge of the South Downs is an area of outstanding beauty.
They are looking for a School Counsellor to work as and when required as part of the school's Pastoral team which is dedicated to emotional/wellbeing support and counselling for our students and staff. A passionate, confidential and experienced school counsellor is needed to assist students in their personal, emotional, social, and academic development. Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) to support the whole-school approach towards wellbeing, curriculum and pastoral support.
School Counsellor Responsibilities:
Counsel individuals and groups confidentially - predominantly Prep School and
Younger Senior School students approximately 8-15 years and as required
Listen to students' concerns regarding social, emotional, academic, or personal
circumstances
Provide students with support and guidance on a diverse range of issues
Work with students to develop and improve their skill set
Design strategies for increased independence and resilience
Work with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and liaising with school staff,
stakeholders and professionals
Promote a whole-school approach towards wellbeing, curriculum and pastoral support
School Counsellor Requirements:
BACP Accredited
School counsellor experience, desirable but not essential
Experience of counselling children, essential
Working knowledge of counselling models, methods, and resources
Ability to identify and respond to students' needs
Excellent listening and problem-solving skills
Patience and compassion essential
Excellent communication
Team player
High level of integrity
Closing date: 17th March 2026 with interviews shortly thereafter
