School Counsellor - Secondary School - Brent - ASAP Start - Full-Time

Are you a qualified or trainee School Counsellor, Psychotherapist, or Mental Health Practitioner looking to make a meaningful difference in a secondary school setting?

Tradewind Recruitment is working with welcoming and well-regarded secondary schools in Brent that are seeking a School Counsellor to join their pastoral and wellbeing teams on a full-time, long-term basis, starting ASAP. This is an excellent opportunity to support students' mental health and emotional development within a supportive school environment.



School Counsellor - Role Overview

As a School Counsellor, you will play a vital role in promoting student wellbeing and supporting positive mental health across KS3 and KS4. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one counselling sessions to students experiencing emotional, social, or behavioural difficulties

  • Supporting students with issues such as anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, friendship difficulties, and family challenges

  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records in line with safeguarding and data protection guidelines

  • Working closely with pastoral staff, SENCOs, safeguarding leads, and external agencies

  • Supporting early intervention and preventative mental health strategies

  • Contributing to a whole-school approach to wellbeing and emotional resilience

  • Attending relevant meetings, reviews, and supervision sessions

  • Upholding safeguarding responsibilities and following school policies at all times



Requirements

  • A recognised qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, or a related mental health field

  • Experience working with children or young people (ideally in a school or educational setting)

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

  • Ability to build trust and rapport with students from diverse backgrounds

  • A calm, empathetic, and professional approach

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
