An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Band 3 Engagement worker within the RECONNECT service.
LPTs RECONNECT service works with individuals who are being released from prison or Immigrational removal centres to support access to/ engagement with community services for a range of health and social support needs. Under the supervision of the RECONNECT registered practitioners, the post holder will work in a trauma informed way to provide time limited support to service users, enabling and encouraging them to access services to meet their individual health and social support needs including mental health, substance and/or alcohol use, physical health, neurodiversity, education and employment.
The RECONNECT engagement worker is primarily required to work in the community undertaking short term pieces of work for a period of up to 6 months with individuals referred to them by registered Reconnect practitioners.
The RECONNECT engagement worker is also required to work with service users prior to their release from prison/ immigration removal centres. The RECONNECT engagement worker will work closely alongside RECONNECT peer support workers.
The Service operates across the whole of Leicestershire and Rutland and the successful applicant is required to hold a full and valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Main duties of the job
The Reconnect Engagement Worker will support service users requiring assistance adjusting from prison or immigration removal centre to community life and have identified health need(s) with oversight from a registered practitioner.
The post holder will work within the Reconnect Service and work closely with providers of other services including the Prison Service, Probation and Turning Point to assist the service user they are working with in sourcing a solution to their care/support needs following release. This can include supporting to register/attend appointments or assessments, submit applications or referrals for support and appropriately handover to partner agencies at the end of the planned engagement.
The post holder will need to be able to provide clear advice and support to services users. They will also be required to have a good understanding of the types of support provisions available in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The aim of the Reconnect Engagement Worker role is to improve the journey and outcome for service users as they navigate through their transition from prison or immigration removal centre to community life, to improve co-ordination and access to support services for service users, with a view to improving their wellbeing and independence.
Having a knowledge of the criminal justice system would be beneficial but not essential for this role.
