
Pharmacy Technician Cancer Services
Job summary
We are currently seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join our Cancer Services team supporting the Duchess of Devonshire Wing (DDW) dispensary. This role is key in ensuring the safe, effective, and timely dispensing of oral chemotherapy, supportive medications, and systemic anti-cancer therapies. You will manage dispensary stock, support clinical trials pharmacy activities, and contribute to quality improvement projects.
Main duties of the job
Accurately dispense prescriptions, referring any issues beyond your authority appropriately Manage and dispense stock of oral chemotherapy and ready-to-administer systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) Support Clinical Trials Pharmacy: handle, store, label, and dispense Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) with accurate documentation Maintain good medicines management practices including stock rotation, expiry date checking, and storage Participate in stock usage reviews, discrepancy investigations, and quality improvement projects Provide basic drug information and dispense items to patients, ensuring safe and effective use of medicines Collaborate with supervising pharmacists and operational management to ensure smooth dispensary and clinical trial services Train and supervise junior pharmacy staff, assistants, and trainees Assist with procurement, receiving, and ordering of medicines and sundries Provide dispensary support at the main site and participate in weekend and Bank Holiday rotas as required

- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences

- Proven skills in stock management, discrepancy investigations, and stakeholder communication
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and computerised dispensing systems
- Excellent numeracy, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to manage workload and adapt to changing priorities
- Desirable: Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) qualification or working towards, GCP training, experience with Meditech and Mosaiq, clinical trials pharmacy knowledge
