Mental Health Support Worker

Leader Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Support Worker for a secondary school setting in Long Benton. This role supports young people aged 11-18 who have learning difficulties, experience mental health challenges, and struggle to engage within a mainstream school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group emotional and mental health support to students.
  • Support young people with anxiety, emotional regulation, low self-esteem, and behavioural challenges.
  • Help students who are struggling in mainstream education to re engage with learning.
  • Support and plan transitions back into mainstream school settings.
  • Assist students in developing coping strategies, social skills, and confidence.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and parents/carers.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to individual support plans.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
About You
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Passionate about supporting young people's mental health and well being.
  • Experienced in working with children or young people with learning difficulties, SEND, or SEMH needs.
  • Confident supporting students who struggle with mainstream education.
  • Able to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
  • A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience in a school, alternative provision, or SEND setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed practice.
  • Relevant qualifications in mental health, education, youth work, or care.
