Mental Health Support Worker (SEMH Setting)

About the Role:

Leader Education are seeking a compassionate and motivated Mental Health Support Worker to join our secondary school SEMH provision in Longbenton. This role is focused on supporting young people aged who are struggling to cope within mainstream education, helping them to rebuild confidence, manage their mental health, and successfully reintegrate back into mainstream school where appropriate.

You will work closely with students who experience social, emotional, and mental health needs, providing consistent, nurturing support in a safe and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and small-group emotional and mental health support to students

Support young people who are unable to cope in mainstream settings, helping them develop strategies to re-engage with learning

Assist students in managing anxiety, emotional regulation, behaviour, and social relationships

Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, families, and external professionals

Help create a calm, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

Monitor student progress and contribute to support plans and reviews

Act as a positive role model, building trusting and supportive relationships

About You:

Passionate about supporting young people s mental health and wellbeing

Patient, empathetic, and resilient

Confident in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and supportive way

Able to build strong, professional relationships with students and staff

Committed to helping young people transition back into mainstream education

Desirable Experience (but not essential)
