Purpose of the Role
To provide emotional, behavioural and learning support to students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, enabling them to access education, improve wellbeing and achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with identified mental health and emotional wellbeing needs.
- Support students to develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive coping strategies.
- Work alongside teachers to help students engage in learning and achieve their potential.
- Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of interventions.
- Liaise with teaching staff, parents/carers and external professionals as appropriate.
- Follow all school safeguarding, child protection and confidentiality procedures.
- Attend relevant meetings and participate in training and professional development.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working with young people in an educational or similar setting.
- Understanding of SEMH needs and adolescent mental health.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Calm, empathetic and resilient approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable
- Teaching Assistant (Level 2 or 3) qualification or equivalent.
- Mental Health First Aid or relevant wellbeing training.
- Experience supporting students with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
