Are you passionate about supporting children's mental health and making a real difference in their education and wellbeing? A wonderful Primary School in Banbury are looking for a Mental Health Assistant to join their team at the beginning of the new academic year!
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in psychology, mental health, or those aspiring to progress into clinical, educational, or therapeutic roles. The position offers hands-on experience working with children who have special educational needs (SEN), including social, emotional, and mental health challenges, within a classroom setting.
As a Mental Health Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the school's SEN team to provide targeted support for children, helping them to engage with learning and develop coping strategies. You will play an important role in promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing, ensuring every child feels supported and understood.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to children with additional needs.
- Assist in implementing individual support plans and behavioural strategies.
- Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills within the classroom.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and confidence.
What we are looking for:
- A degree in psychology or a related field, or a strong interest in pursuing a career in mental health or education.
- Previous experience working with children, young people, or individuals with additional needs (desirable but not essential).
- Excellent communication skills and a compassionate, patient approach.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour in a positive and proactive way.
