We are seeking experienced and passionate Head of Counselling for posts commencing in August 2026. Successful applicants are offered two year renewable contracts with highly competitive terms of employment and outstanding working conditions.

The Counselling Team is an integral part of pastoral care and safeguarding throughout the School. The counsellors play proactive and reactive roles within the wider pastoral team to support and ensure the well-being of our students. The counsellors are central to our safeguarding provision in the school and have excellent links with wider support services in the city. The counsellors are active members of the Bangkok Counselling Network and the South East Asia School Counsellors Network.

Experience and qualifications

  • Highly motivated and positive individual who is passionate about positive mental health and wellbeing

  • Postgraduate Diploma or Degree level qualification in counselling

  • Accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

  • Membership of, or willingness to join, the International School Counsellors Association (ISCA)

  • Further therapeutic training or qualification in working with children and young people, for example in Play Therapy or Art Therapy

  • Experience and/or understanding of supporting children and young people with developmental, emotional, social and educational issues across our full age range

  • An awareness of the range of needs of people from diverse ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds

  • An appreciation of working with students and families for whom English is not their first language

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to the safeguarding of children, (Keeping Children Safe in Education; Children Act 2004; and Thai Child Protection Act 2546 (2003))

  • An empathetic individual who can work alongside others in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • Positive communication and listening skills

  • Ability to build appropriate relationships

  • Patience, tolerance and sensitivity

  • A mature and non-judgemental outlook

  • All School counsellors are required to have regular supervision with a qualified external provider, this will be arranged by the School

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development

  • Ability to reflect on professional practice and determine further development needs

  • Awareness of data protection, child protection, and confidentiality legislation

  • Full commitment to the school, refraining from any paid work outside of school without the Head Master’s express permission.

  • Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked and no question regarding suitability to work with children

  • Appropriate references from current and previous employer, corroborated by personal phone calls made to each referee
