Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) Secondary School Winchester, Hampshire

Are you a trained ELSA looking to support students in developing emotional resilience and wellbeing?

GSL Education are recruiting a full-time Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to join a dedicated secondary school in Winchester, Hampshire. This fulfilling role starts as soon as possible and offers the opportunity to positively impact students facing emotional and social challenges. For the right candidate, a permanent position will be offered after a successful probationary period.

As an ELSA, you will play a key role in supporting students emotional development and helping them manage the demands of school life with confidence and care.

Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions focusing on emotional literacy and social development
  • Work closely with students experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, low self-esteem, and emotional regulation
  • Collaborate with SENCo, pastoral teams, and teaching staff to develop and review support plans
  • Monitor and report on student progress in a clear and sensitive manner
  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel heard and supported
  • Support whole-school initiatives aimed at improving emotional wellbeing

Applicants from the care or wellbeing sector with relevant student support experience and who are ELSA trained are encouraged to apply.

Requirements for an ELSA:

  • ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) qualification is essential
  • Previous experience supporting students with emotional and social needs in a school setting
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build strong, positive relationships with young people
  • Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply for one
