Job Title: Clinical Psychologist - Critical Care Assessment & Follow-Up Band: 8a/8b (flexible depending on experience) Location: Acute Hospital Setting - Mid Cheshire NHS Critical Care Unit - Crewe Contract Type: Locum Hours: Part-Time - Initial assessment + 2 sessions per week thereafter Start Date: ASAP Rate: Competitive Overview: We are seeking a qualified and experienced Clinical Psychologist to undertake a specialist psychological assessment of a patient within a Critical Care Unit, followed by ongoing support consisting of two sessions per week. This role is essential in helping the multidisciplinary team (MDT) understand the patient's cognitive, emotional, and psychological functioning and to support recovery and discharge planning. Key Responsibilities: Conduct an initial, comprehensive psychological assessment for a patient in the Critical Care Unit, including cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and trauma-related factors. Liaise with medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues to gather relevant clinical background and contribute to MDT discussions. Utilise appropriate standardised tools and clinical interviews to formulate psychological needs. Provide a detailed written report outlining key findings and recommendations for ongoing care. Deliver two follow-up psychological sessions per week with the patient to monitor mental health, provide therapeutic input, and support adjustment and recovery. Offer psychological consultation to the MDT and advise on best practice for managing psychological aspects of patient care. Contribute to discharge planning and signposting for ongoing community or outpatient psychological support where necessary. Essential Criteria: HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist Previous experience in critical care, ICU, or acute hospital settings Skilled in psychological assessment and formulation using a variety of psychometric tools Able to produce high-quality clinical reports and communicate findings effectively Comfortable working independently and integrating with wider MDTs Desirable: Experience working with post-ICU psychological trauma, delirium, or cognitive impairments Background in neuropsychological screening or rehabilitation psychology Familiarity with delivering brief psychological interventions in medical settings
