Job overview We are looking for applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic clinical or counselling psychologists to join our supportive team of therapists providing client-centred, flexible, inclusive and respectful assessment and therapy to adults and their families living in South Kensington and Chelsea.

We are keen to invest in the development of new practitioners joining our service to enhance their knowledge, skills, clinical practice, leadership and confidence in working in this area.

In CNWL, psychological professions have a strong sense of leadership and a distinct professional identity. There is an emphasis on Continuing Professional Development and developing your skills in line with your career progression goals.

Main duties of the job The Psychology team works with adults in the community with severe and enduring mental health problems including psychosis, bipolar affective disorder, complex emotional needs, recurrent depression and complex PTSD. We welcome applications from candidates with specialist skills in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) but we are also interested in candidates with interests in specialist therapies such as CBTp, DBT, or Schema Therapy approaches. Any candidates with group experience would be particularly well-placed to contribute to our group programme in the service.

Our staff work pro-actively, with confidence and motivation, showing initiative which has contributed to the development of numerous award-winning services. We find that they are often flexible, robust and resourceful and able to manage the challenges of working in an environment which can be demanding.

Our team sits within a diverse and supportive local multidisciplinary service with good supervision structures and access to opportunities within the borough and wider trust for development of special interests and the sharing of specialist knowledge. The service has close links with several regional Clinical Psychology Training courses.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Clinical: assessment, formulation and treatment in 1:1 and group.
  • Developing existing skills in teaching, training and supervision.
  • Contributing to service development.

Person specification Training & Qualifications
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counseling psychology as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
Knowledge & Skills
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
  • Knowledge of legislation and policy in relation to the client group and mental health
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS
  • Clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Substantial experience of CBT or other evidence-based psychological therapies
Experience
  • Assessed experience of working as a trainee/qualified psychologist in a CMHT or similar complex care service working with patients with complexity and co-morbidity.
  • Relevant experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Experience of supervising other mental health staff.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
  • Experience of assessing and treating clients across the full range of care settings
  • Experience of representing Psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
