We re looking for a Children s Mental Health Assistant to join our brilliant supply team, supporting pupils across SEND and alternative provision schools in Durham. These settings support children who may experience anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, or emotional regulation difficulties and they need consistent, caring adults to help them feel safe and supported.

In this role, you ll work 1:1 and in small groups, helping children manage emotions, build confidence, and develop positive coping strategies. Whether it s supporting a calm start to the day, helping a child through a tricky moment, or celebrating small wins, you ll be making a real difference every step of the way.

The Ideal Children s Mental Health Assistant Will Be:

  • Warm, patient, and genuinely caring

  • Confident supporting children with emotional and mental health needs

  • Able to stay calm during challenging moments and use positive behaviour strategies

  • A great listener who builds trust quickly

  • Passionate about helping children feel understood, valued, and confident

Experience in care, youth work, education, psychology, or mental health support is highly valued but most important is the right attitude. A DBS on the Update Service is required (or willingness to apply).
