Job Description: Career Counselor (Grades 8–12)

Position Overview
The Career Counselor provides academic and career guidance to secondary students (Grades 8–12) as they prepare for IGCSE/GCSE subject selections, A-Level pathways, and university admissions. The role supports students in understanding their strengths, exploring career interests, and developing clear academic plans aligned with their future goals.

Key Responsibilities
1. Academic & Career Guidance
Provide individual and group counseling sessions to support students with subject selection for IGCSE/GCSE and A-Level streams.
Guide students in identifying strengths, interests, and potential career paths.
Assist students in exploring vocational, academic, and international higher-education opportunities.
2. University & Post-Secondary Support
Support students with university application processes, including UCAS, CommonApp, GCC universities, and scholarship opportunities.
Guide students with personal statements, reference requests, and required documentation.
Conduct workshops on university admissions, career pathways, and global opportunities.
3. Student Development
Organize career awareness events, workshops, and guest speaker sessions for Grades 8–12.
Provide support in developing soft skills such as goal-setting, time management, study habits, and interview preparation.
Introduce students to internships, volunteering programs, and extracurricular opportunities.
4. Parent & Community Engagement
Communicate with parents about academic progress, subject choices, and future pathways.
Conduct parent information sessions on IGCSE/GCSE choices, A-Level routes, and university requirements.
5. Collaboration with School Staff
Work closely with Heads of Department, coordinators, and senior leadership to ensure students receive accurate academic guidance.
Support teachers in identifying students who may need additional academic or emotional support.
Provide feedback to SLT on trends, student needs, and counseling outcomes.
6. Record Keeping & Administration
Maintain confidential records of counseling sessions and student plans.
Prepare annual career guidance plans and termly reports for school leadership.
Ensure adherence to safeguarding, ethical, and confidentiality guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Candidates from top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, or Harvard are highly desirable.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in school counseling or academic guidance.
Strong knowledge of the British curriculum (IGCSE, GCSE, A-Level).
Experience with university admissions processes (UK, US, EU, GCC).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
