Introduction

If you’re an Associate Specialist looking for a new opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary team in an established secure service setting, then come and work at Wellesley Hospital, a purpose built 101 bed hospital in the Southwest for men and women with mental health needs.

This a 6-month post covering a period of maternity leave.

As an Associate Specialist, you will ensure the high quality first-line medical care of our inpatients, liaise effectively with external professionals and carers, provide written and oral evidence for Hospital Managers’ and Tribunal hearings. You will work towards safe discharges including preparing discharge summaries, reports and other necessary documentation and be a valued and effective member of the multidisciplinary team at Wellesley Hospital.

This established service looks to continually innovate, improve and deliver excellent care for its service users, has an active programme of education and research and provides significant developmental opportunities for its staff.

As an Associate Specialist, you will be:

  • Undertaking psychiatric and external assessments for clients referred to the unit to determine the appropriate level of care to be provided, under the direction and supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist, and work with the unit multi-disciplinary team to ensure delivery of the Care Programme.
  • Preparing reports and other associated documentation as necessary e.g. for CPA meetings, as directed and supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Participating in learning activities and supervision of other non-consultant doctors and other staff.
  • Participating in Clinical Governance activities, and account for contracted hours utilised in research, Continuing Professional Development and other non-clinical duties as necessary and in a timely manner.
  • Working effectively with colleagues to ensure that clients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times, which will require participation in an on-call rota for the site, and the South West including Acute and Rehabilitation Services
  • Exercising flexibility in outlook and respond appropriately in response to reasonable changes in the demands of the service.
  • Any other duties considered to be commensurate with the level of the post.
  • Actively participate in the development, review and implementation of Elysium Healthcare policies and local unit procedures.
  • Assisting the Medical Director in achieving the unit’s objectives for promoting its reputation as a quality service.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Full GMC registration
  • Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams
  • To be in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • To have had an appraisal/RITA within the last year
  • Ideally at least 3 years' experience in Psychiatry
  • Experience working as a doctor within a similar environment
